Does this need an SD card? Or can it record and you watch the clip straight to your phone?

The app allows you to preview/compose your shot, and control taking photographs/video. The photos/video are record to the memory card (Micro SD card). The camera has no internal memory, and cannot transmit a recording to your phone. The app also cannot live record from the device, it simply alerts you to insert a memory card into the camera.

If you absolutely needed to be able to have the recording done on the phone, there is a workaround that can be done, but the quality of the video/photo will not be anywhere near as good as the camera is capable of.

In the OD Camera app, you are able to see a live preview image which, as mentioned previously, allows you to compose your shot with the camera. If you turn your phone to the landscape orientation, that preview will be full screen. You could take screen grabs using your phone's button combination (most Android phones, as an example, take a screenshot by pressing the volume down and power button simultaneously). If you want video, your device likely has a screen recording facility, which should capture the camera preview as video footage. BUT, that preview video is highly compressed and the quality is more like a good webcam, rather than the EP8's actual quality. So if you did this for some reason, just remember the final result will not be great and that isn't the camera's fault.

The app allows you to transfer videos/photos from the camera's memory card to your phone/tablet across WiFi (although this is a little slow for large files). Alternatively, a better solution is to get a memory card reader that can connect to your phone/tablet, and use that to copy the memory card content.

The Ordro app (OD Cam) on the Apple App Store States that it enables you to transfer video and photo files from the EP8 to your iPad. Certainly the Android version transfers across the WiFi connection, I can't imagine the Apple version is different in that regard.

I would just say that transfer across WiFi can be quite slow. It would probably be better to get a card reader compatible with your iPad and connect the memory card directly for file transfers.
