Why has this not been revised and republished in 6 years?! - This has been the go to book for GSCE GP since it came out and it is easy to see why. It is well-set out, colourfully and interestingly presented, with a great deal of skills-based activities linked to many interesting and thought-provoking resources (Sustainable Living in the IR section and Migration in the Written Exam section spring to mind). Before you read the rest of this review, I must say that on the majority of occasions I too have enjoyed using it. However, from the moment I started using it I found some glaring errors in almost every aspect. There are questions relating to sources that aren't there (Migration Activities 5 and 6 p. 267 and Fuel and Energy Activity 4 p. 240), or to the wrong source or even (as in the skills section on reflection) the wrong section. There are spelling and grammar errors (for a book that will mostly be used by second-language learners, this is pretty shocking). There are 3 tweets with the Twitter handle '@name' in the Demographic Change set of practice questions and then the questions refer to handles that aren't there. Perhaps the most egregious point though is the failure to update the exam questions so that they relate to the actual exam. I understand the need to make things interesting, but why ask students 'what questions would the police ask the young woman?' or 'what questions would you ask to find out if Mr. Yamauchi's home really is safe?' if these types of questions would never be seen on an exam? The practice questions for 'transport systems' includes a test the claim question for 14 marks when, for 4 years, they have only ever been 8 WHY? This surely is not the first time someone has pointed out these errors and I understand that the exam may well have been different in 2016. However, they should have been sorted out by now and the resources and exam questions updated to fit today. It really takes away from what could be a fantastic textbook. I look forward to seeing an updated edition soon, especially as the only other GCSE GP textbook is as dull as dishwater.
