It’s a very good book for kids. My baby enjoys looking at the paintings in a whole page with very little text. The only thing I didn’t like is the quality of the paper and the print. It’s not bad, but could be better.

I was impressed with this book and its approach to abstract art and Piet Mondrian. The information about the artist was interesting, but my favorite part was the fascinating art he created. It truly is more than just boxes and rectangles and lines. The arrangement and colors used were deliberate and thought out.I have to say that am hooked on the series! It takes a totally different format than most children's art history books. The author is the narrator, and so Mondrian is talking directly to the child/reader, revealing bits of information about his life, but the child is first shown a piece of a painting. Then, something is discussed about the painting, such as how he used boxes and specific colors to create certain effects.Then, the child sees the entire painting on the next page. This technique is ingenious because seeing an entire painting first can be overwhelming because there is so much to take in visually. By showing one piece, the viewer can really appreciate one technique, such as color usage or brushstrokes that are used. The page with the closeup of the yellow and blue swirls provides an opportunity to guess about what the whole painting has on it and what it's about. No one would guess that it was a seashore!Not only do we learn bite-sized, manageable pieces of information about the artist and the paintings, but we also get to extend the learning by answering the questions about two paintings at the end of the book. My child's favorite part was the craft activity at the end that allows the child to become an artist and use Mondrian and his paintings as inspiration for two different activities that are hands-on at the end of the book. I definitely recommend this series.

I teach a prek class. This book was perfect for our famous artist study. It's short and to the point but shows off various features of Piet's art. I will definitely be buying the rest of the series for the other artists I teach about.
