Cult of Aphrodite: Rites and Festivals of the Golden One

This is a great book on modern rites/rituals of Aphrodite. The author wants you to use/change anything to fit your practice. She also gives a small reading list in the beginning for further reading in Hellenistic practice. However, this book seems advanced. You should know a handful of myths and have prior knowledge of this goddess before reading this book. You may feel lost. I feel this book should have included her myths/stories. For what is ritual with out myths? Also, I wish she included some or all of Aphrodites epithets. There's good and bad to this book. The imagery is a bit cheesy. This book has a lot of potential but gives a good starting point. For being the first of its kind on rituals for this goddess I won't judge harshly.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Greek (Hellenic) Paganism. Black writes outlines for all major feasts and festivals devoted to Aphrodite. The author also writes about traditional clothing, cleansing oneself before ritual, herbs used and proper etiquette. This book surpassed my expectations, and since I read it on kindle, I think I'm going to also have to purchase a hard-copy. I give it a full 5 stars.

The author has done the research and created easy rituals. The text includes a handy calendar of the ancient Greek festivals and notes which of the rituals the author has created are based in authentic ancient ritual and which rituals were created as completely contemporary because there is not information regarding a particular ancient holiday was celebrated. I had already done quite a bit of research regarding Aphrodite before purchasing this book, so I found the book refreshing with basic and essential information.This book is a time-saver for those people who don't want to take the time to do their own research. People who enjoy taking the time to discover the ancient texts might prefer to consult a textbook or a detailed website first.

Dear Readers, If you, like myself, have bought a book for research and/or devotional use, and found it lacking, this book on Aphrodite and Her rituals was the one I was looking for. Granted, I would have loved more, but giving the secret and mystery cults of the Greeks and Romans, any information is greatly appreciated. Ms. Black has good research backing Her rituals regarding the Goddess Aphrodite. This reader and devotee of Aphrodite is glad to see this material available to the reading public.I hope to see more from this author.Blessings,Donna Swindells

This is a wonderful collection of rituals and way to honor and worship Aphrodite, and I treasure it in my library. However, the formatting of the ebook leaves much to be desired, with headings appearing all over the place in random areas, making it difficult sometimes to figure out where one ritual ends and the next begins.

I purchased the Kindle version, which is full of viewing issues (at least on my iPad). The book itself seems like a piecemeal of cut-and-paste internet materials. Not a happy purchase.

This is a very good book and I am glad I ordered it. I plan to order some of the authors other books now.

I learned a lot about how Aphrodite was celebrated in the glory days of her cult, the book was also practical unlike alot of occult books.

I found this book interesting and I would really recommend Lorelei's book to anyone who wants to learn more about Aphrodite. If you want to worship Aphrodite then Lorelei's books are the best books that are around for that. Her rituals are interesting and I like that she made her rituals more modern for today's World. The only drawback though about the rituals are that you have to be with other people to do them and I would have liked if there were more rituals you could do on your own. The only Ritual you could do on your own in this book is the Lustral Libation Ritual to Aphrodite. I feel I learnt a lot more about Aphrodite after reading this book and would really recommend it to others.
