I watched a couple of YouTube videos first. This item came as ordered. Easy to install and it works great.

Great quality
When adding a new base to my chair so I could have wheels, the original gas canister was STUCK in the old base. I tried my best but could not get it out, and the manufacturer was useless when I asked for some sort of help (since they sent the wrong chair as I ordered one with wheels and they sent one without). I eventually gave up and ordered this gas lift and it fit perfectly, and lifted the chair a little higher than before. That's a good thing, since I now no longer sit so low at my desk! I don't even have to lift the chair at all, but I did lift it all the way to test it out, and had three people sitting on top of each other in the chair (over 550lbs combined) and it still felt perfectly sturdy). Definitely worth the purchase and not bad price wise.

Perfect for Lorell chair
Took some pounding to remove old cylinder but eventually came off. Be careful when you are striking it and it comes off what is in it's path. Almost broke window glass on door. This is a great replacement so far to my Lorell high back chair! I returned the replacement chair after this fix saving me over $100! DIY for the win again!

Did the Job - Better than the original!
Why did you pick this product vs others?: My old cylinder had the dreaded slowly sinking issue when I sat on it. I would guess it was 10 years old and the cushions were still in great shape. I paid over $400.00 for the chair so I thought I would rebuild it and use it for my workbench in the basement. Ease of assembly: I saw a lot of YouTube videos that showed that it was tough to get the cylinder off the chair bracket. I used a heat gun at 300 degrees and a pipe wrench to loosen the old one, it made it easy. On the chair base there is a c-clip which I removed that held in the old cylinder and I was able to use a mallet to knock out the old housing. Fit: Perfect fit and I am very happy. I also replaced the wheels with single roller wheels which I also got from Amazon - See my other review. The chair is like brand new for under $50.00 I would do this same repair again. Scale = 1 Star - I donโt recommend - Returned; 2 Stars - Don't Recommend - Kept Product; 3 Stars - Recommend - Meets Expectations; 4 Stars - Recommend - Exceeds Expectations; 5 Stars - Perfect 10 (rare)

so far so good. Fixed my chair. SEE INSTALLATION NOTE.
Well, it has been a few months and it is still working. Hopefully it will not fail like the last brand I bought after less than a year. NOTE ON INSTALLATION: Besides the fact it takes some strength to get the old out on, You MUST insure that it will not SLIDE up too far into the chair mechanism where the lever controls the height. ALL the office chairs seem to have this problem - it relies on a extremely close tolerance between the cylinder case and the chair holder. If it goes too far, it his the lever mechanism and will not work. AND that is even if your chair has an adjustment for that. Two of my chairs over the years have failed the way - the cylinder either quickly or eventually slides too far and stops work. So you have to figure out a solution to keep that from happening. I normally wrap the cylinder with a very thing layer like paper to keep it from going too far - of course it has to get close to the lever or you can't adjust either. A bit tricky - but due to the inherent design of all these chairs. Most people do not realize this and trash the chairs and get another.

Easy to install. Quality product. Taking cylinder diameter mesurement was not needed.
I found this product because my office desk task chair recently experienced a failed lift cylinder. I honestly wasn't sure if this replacement would fit or not. After reading the reviews, I decided to take a chance and order. I watched a few youtube videos before hand to see what I was up against. Basically there's very few steps involved to extract the old cylinder, then do the same for the new cylinder. In every video you see someone whacking the base plate of the chair that holds the cylinder. I used a rubber mallet instead of a standard nail hammer. Some reviews recommend using a pipe wrench. I do not own a pipe wrench and I don't understand why you'd even need one for cylinder removal and install. After several attempts with my mallet, I could not get the old cylinder to pop out. Then I just used more muscle, and then BAM!, the old one popped out. I couldn't believe how easy this was. You just have to hit harder if the old cylinder doesn't pop out on the first try. You do the same for the bottom portion where the cylinder is pressed into the chair's wheel (spider shape) mount, also easy. Then you remove the top cap of the new cylinder and kind of lightly tap the new cylinder into place. I used a block of wood over the butt end of the bottom of the cylinder to hit, so I wouldn't damage the new cylinder. It doesn't take as much force pressing/hitting the new cylinder in place. I think body weight and gravity will help seat the new cylinder over time. Super easy install. I'll also note that I decided to upgrade and get the tallest cylinder (5.5"). I think I may have doubled the height at it's highest point compared to how my chair was bought when new. The lowest point is now just below where my old chair use to rest at it's highest. So keep this in mind. You may need to consider whether or not your chair can still be stowed at your desk if your chair has armrests. A taller cylinder might prevent the chair from sliding under your desk if the armrests end up hitting the desktop. My chair still fits, but only if I lower the chair to it's lowest setting. I actually prefer the taller cylinder since I have long legs. I also like that it's almost stool height now, for when I'm playing guitar etc.

Awesome replacement
My not even 3 year old office chair suddenly wouldn't stay up, and that was a problem when it's lowest position made me feel like a kindergartner at the adult's table. I wasn't really wanting to drop another $100+ on a new chair when this one is fine except for the cylinder, so I took a chance and ordered this replacement. I couldn't be happier! It was a serious pain in the you know what to get the old cylinder out, but once I did everything has been perfect. This new cylinder has a higher range of motion, allowing the chair to rise almost as high as a bar stool. That will be great for my sit/stand desk since I spend half my time on my feet or pacing while working on projects. Now I won't have to constantly raise and lower the desk when I need to sit for a while. Highly recommended.
