Hurricane Girl

A must-Read
I suspect Dermansky and I could be buddies because we're obsessed with the same things: turkey sandwiches, swimming, a great beach house, the sheer delight of a great swimming pool, and cats. These are what MC Allison is obsessed as well in this unputdownable thriller-esque read. It's dry like her other stories, sardonically amusing, and I can't get enough of this author. I won't say much more than that, you need to discover each move with Allison as she makes them! It's a short read, I finished it in a single sitting (post swim, with a turkey sandwich, and my cat in my lap)—and LOVED it!

Funny, gripping, unpredictable
All Marcy Dermansky's novels make me take stock of my own life. I am usually going through something similar to the main characters somehow. In this case it was moving far away from everyone and starting over. As the title suggests Allison experiences a hurricane, and the story follows on from there. If you're familiar with Bad Marie, The Red Car or Very Nice, you will have some idea of the book's tone and humor, but might still be surprised by how the events unfold. I read it within 2 days and am already considering a reread.

Unique!
The unique style of writing pulls you in and has you flipping pages. Was it a love story? A horror story? Alison is nothing if not interesting and the ending is shocking!

Good, easy read, limited depth
It’s a good book, just a little simplistic for my tastes, but a quick read and very relatable character. First 2 parts and ending are refreshing and original. The rest is a little boring and corny.

Such a Fun read
I’ve been a fan of this author’s previous books - so I suspected I was in for a dark yet hilarious ride and this novel did not disappoint. I read it in one day - needing to know how it was going to play out. Dermansky’s ability to see nuance in complicated human interactions is so brilliant. Her ability to pinpoint what is, ultimately uncomplicated and unforgivable, feels vital to our society.
