I've got a bunch of rods and reels. Most are off the rack$100 and below. This steps things up to another level. Incredibly smooth and quiet. Seems to be a locked reel, it doesn't reel in reverse. Large handle mid sized. It's well made, very greased up.

Bought this to do some fishing from the dock where I was staying in the FL Keys. Easily handled a 5 ft nurse shark but even more surprising it landed a 4 ft tarpon that must have weighted over 40 pounds. Granted it took me 6 hook ups before finally getting the beast to the boat ramp. With the drag cranked up I was able to pull him enough to keep him from running under the dock and cutting me off with the pilings. Outstanding reel especially at this price point. I've bought several other Kastking reels but they were smaller fresh water reels which are OK but I wouldn't buy again.

Bought this for our salt water fishing trip and it did not disappoint! 5 hard days of surf fishing using 30# braid and this reel worked beautifully. Although we didn't land anything huge, we still caught plenty of little guys. Smooth reeling and stainelle steel bearing were well made and designed i look forward to using this reel for many years. Also, be certain to rinse it well after use. Highly recommend this unitnfor what we used for.

Great first impressions of this reel but only time will tell. I surf fished it along side of my Diawa BG 4500, the BG is a much smoother reel but Kapstan is a sealed reel so it's to be expected that it won't be as smooth. The difference it small but noticeable. I fished it for a week straight and it worked flawlessly but coming in at the same price point as the BG, I would go with the BG, unless you are fishing in conditions that may require a sealed reel. In that case the Kapstan is a winner. I marked review down to a 4 due to the extreme difficulty getting any reel parts through Kastking, great part diagram with the reel but they don't seem to sell any parts for their reels.

This is the best reel I’ve ever used! Super smooth casting and very comfortable handle! It’s strong and durable! I’ve used this on a charter boat and it worked perfectly! Caught some large fish on it! Love this product and most of the products they sell!

I haven't used it yet. I will say it's build well has a good weight to it. I have a fishing trip lined up in april. looking forward to see how it performs and holds up through the years

I don't know that I've ever written a poor review, but this product deserves it. Out of the box, the reel is sleek and smooth. It's not until you line the spool do you realize the line isn't evenly distributed on the spool. It's bunched up at the bottom of the spool, limiting the capacity of the reel. This also causes a reduction in casting distance. The spool is also very rough at the top which inhibits the line from peeling off the reel. The 2nd time I cast the line, it formed an awful nest that was impossible to untangle. Lastly, the bail contacts the drag screw on the top of the spool when the spool is at its peak height. This should NEVER happen on any reel, much less one that costs $150. Do not purchase this reel.

I abuse my fishing gear more than your average fisherman. Fishing from a jet ski in the ocean is fun, but your gear, and yourself, get bombarded by high velocity salt water constantly. I had one lower priced reel, by a big name manufacturer (probably the biggest) last only one trip, before grinding and sticking from salt water intrusion. So I started looking at some sealed reels that can handle the pressure. So far the Kastking 4000 series, spooled up with 15lb braid has landed countless Spanish mackeral, bluefish, bonito, and a couple false albacore, during around 25 trips getting hammered with salt water, and hasn't slowed down a bit. The only downsides in my opinion, are it's a little bit heavy, and the drag clicker is quiet compared to my other reels. Luckily it holds plenty of 15lb braid, in case I don't notice the drag noise. Using the reel feels pretty good. The power handle works great, and feels good being all metal. The drag is smooth and linear. So far I am happy with the purchase. I will update if things change, but so far I am impressed with the durability.

Brand New reel with scratch marks... otherwise,,, it's a 5 stars...well...will not affect the reel function...yet to try it out...am sure it good... hopefully..heehee...
