Works as advertised for a 3db noise reduction
Worked as described! I saw about a 6db drop from unit startup (equivalent to about a 75% volume drop) and a 3db drop from steady state for the unit. This was measured from 3ft away from the condenser. As others noted it is fairly large, so I had to pull pretty hard on the velcro straps to make sure it wasn't touching the internal fins. The unit delivered is also black as opposed to light gray. I'll report back on how it holds up over time. The only potential downside is that because it is large, getting behind it to clean the fins may be a bit more challenging with a hose.

Pretty good, AC unit is about half as loud now.
Compressor is about half as loud now. And there might have been some frequencies that were rattling windows that are now blocked; the window isn’t rattling anymore. Daughter can sleep better. Product doesn’t match the picture. It’s black not gray. And it will be all squished/deformed when you get it fit right, not nice looking like in the picture. It must be sized for a pretty big compressor. I was gonna say the velcro straps don’t work too well when the top part gets pulled tight around the compressor. They are way too long for a Trane 2 ton unit. But I should have just cut them shorter. The bottom of my AC unit had big grooves in the bas; I stuffed them with pipe insulation. A good bit of sound is still getting out somehow. Not sure if its from the compressor pipe holes or holes in the bottom or gaps from somewhere else. Need some sort of gap detector… Anyways it works pretty well.

Cost effective method to reduce irritating high frequency compressor noise.
A Goodman single stage heat pump I installed recently has been working well, but the sound is really annoying! Much louder than our two stage Goodman. Wondered how the two stage suppressed the sound and found it came with the custom fit sound blanket installed. Looked up online and found this AC compressor sound blanket on Amazon (of course). Ordered Thursday & got it Saturday. Installed in about twenty minutes with a helper to balance fan assembly off to the side. There are four long Velcro straps (left and right in upper and lower positions) the base assembly. You will need to trim to length since the left and right straps mate to the same 12” length of hooks. Just pull tight and cut at mid point to leave room for mating strap. Note: I also applied several lengths of super tough and strong Gorilla Duct tape to ensure a tight fit and as backup to straps. Looked very good but of course I didn’t take a picture. Result: works pretty well! I amno longer distracted by the sound of the unit and while the sound is a bit still louder than our two stage, the level is overall acceptable. Didn’t measure decibel level because who cares, it’s the “oh wow, that’s not so annoying anymore” result I care about. Per one of the other reviewers, I created movie which illustrates the before and after sounds levels.

Buyer Beware !!
Be absolutely certain this "Universal Fit" works with your unit. I found it to be too large for mine. I also found that this blanket reduced compressor noise and increased wind noise from the fan, with no change in decibel readings before and after installation. I was charged $19.33 PER ITEM when I returned the two. There was no indication of this fee under the "full refund policy," and I would not have purchased them had I known this.

Changes the sound, may not affect the volume: YMMV
Well made, quickly delivered, easy to install. However, in my case, while the sound definitely was affected (higher frequencies dampened), the actual db reading was about 1db higher than before. I'm attributing this to the changed harmonic output resonating with the condenser's casing? In any event, my neighbor couldn't tell a difference, so I returned the item for a credit. It was worth a shot, and apparently works for some folks, probably those with noisier compressors than mine. My understanding is that you need at least a 3db change in order to notice a volume difference. Now I'm researching building a sound barrier. Wish me luck!

Will Preserve Your Hearing and Perhaps Your Sanity
Hell is littered with droning air conditioner condenser machines. I hate the cold; I hate the artificiality of AC; and maybe most of all, I hate the confounded noise the machines produce. Unfortunately, we live in a warm climate and I am alone in my hatred. Everyone else love the evil contraption. To make matters worse, we live in a New Urbanism development where units are right on top of each other. Our next-door neighbor's AC unit sounds like the Death Star revving up its planet-destroying laser every time it turns on. Like vicious demons breaking loose from Hades, the machine explodes into action. We've done everything possible to mitigate the noise coming from that machine—we installed sound-proof window inserts, we added a fountain to help drown out the noise, and we even built a damn brick wall to block the noise. Like an insidious audible cancer, the noise still penetrates. Of course, all our solutions were limited in their effectiveness because they weren't at the source. The Brinmar sound blanket tackles the evil noise at the source, making it more effective. It doesn't eliminate the sound altogether—it's not the shroud of Turin—but it does bring it down just enough so as to preserve your eardrums and your soul. One thing you will notice is that this sound blanket does nothing to reduce the fan noise, which is substantial. It only affects the grinding auditory violence of the compressor machine. After you put one of these on, you'll probably only be able to hear the fan and I think most people will agree that's a welcomed change.

Reduces compressor noise by about 50% or more
I have an old Payne A/C compressor outside, and it was really loud. The neighbors never said a word about the noise, but the thing is so loud that I was always felt bad about turning on the A/C. This sound blanket from Brinmar really does help to reduce the sound coming from the compressor. My completely unscientific observation is that this product has reduced the noise by at least half. It's not whisper quiet by any means, and it's still louder than one of the high-end Trane units. Nonetheless, it is a huge improvement from before, and I feel the result you get for the price of the product is worth it. Keep in mind that if you have an older compressor, the fan is probably responsible for a fair amount of noise as well (which this product can't help you with). But, the compressor is the worst offender for sure - so wrap it up with this sound blanket. Installation is not too hard, if you are somewhat handy. Just remove the fan from the top of your outside A/C compressor and wrap up the compressor inside (looks like a little torpedo). Secure the sound blanket with the built in velcro straps. The instructions recommend you duct tape the whole thing to seal the holes, but that was difficult for me to do because of the tight space inside. I wasn't willing to remove the whole coil just to duct tape the sound blanket, so I don't have a 100% sealed installation. Even so, the noise from the compressor is reduced by at least half. Make sure to wear a mask while handling this product, because the sound blanket is filled with fiberglass insulation. And while you're at it, tighten up all the nuts and bolts on your outside unit.

It worth the money
I bought this product and in the back of my head i was doubting it will work, but guess what !! It worked . The AC unit noise noticably reduced (Yes the humming is still but so contained and in different pitch) i can easily say the noise reduction reached 40%. Installation wise wasnt hard but not smooth ! the top of the compressor was little heavier than i thought as the fan and motor are attached to . but its a good thing as well as once i removed it the compressor motor was clear reach. i only wish if this sound batt top cover had more slots (Not a box 4 sides- may be slot in other one or two sides) to acumidate the compressor ferion pipr throu. I had to puch, twist and bend the top sound matt to pass one pipe between two sides and manuver the other pipe. But it Worked out well at the end . .. Two things to watch out when do it yourself 1- The Fan and its motor are attached to the AC top cover - its heavy, The wires connecting it to the unit are short so you won't have much wire length to flip the cover- just get two chairs or a small table as high as the unit so you can place it gentely on it. 2- The AC Top edge after removing the top part is sharp as blades, Cover the whole perimeter with towels before you start installing the sound batt. thank you
