Wired (Buchanan/FBI)

I am a Julie Garwood fan. I always look forward to her book releases knowing that at some level I will like them. Wired was a true disappointment. I agree with other reviewers, Julie Garwood either did not write this book or it was rewritten and heavily edited by someone else. I think everyone can agree that Ms. Garwood has a formula for her contemporary romances. This book simply does not follow. The hero, Liam, is such a disappointment. We were introduced to him in prior books. He was dynamic, handsome, confident and outgoing. There is an expectation that he will be the same in this book. Not so. As a matter of fact, Liam's character is barley developed. Other than learning a little about his family you don’t learn anything about him. Allison, the heroine, I have no words for her. She is beautiful (and of course does not know it), but she is a stupid genius? Apparently, she can solve puzzles in five minutes, write complicated code and hack into any database on earth, but she can’t manage her family or personal life. There is simply nothing to like about her because what character development there is makes her out to be something of a simpleton. There is no character development between the two main characters. I have no idea why they like each other; they don’t even spend any time together. Now the plot; what plot? There are a bunch of characters thrown together, with very little dialogue (where was that witty Garwood-speak) and frankly what plot there is, is stupid. I had to force myself to finish the book simply to see if it got any better, it did not. I suggest if you are a die hard fan that you get the book from the library or wait until it is heavily discounted. Don’t pay full price. Some books should be shelved and rewritten and this was one. On the plus side, Ms. Garwood has a long history of producing great novels and I can’t wait to read them.

He gave her a feeling of protection and affection that she wasn’t used to. Allison was a good character: she’s not the strongest woman you will meet because she’s constantly doing what her relatives ask of her but she’s pretty confident in her capabilities.Liam is not new. Bad boy that looks like a god when wearing a suit. Almost everything he does is confidential so we barely know him to be honest. We know he likes women but not to have a serious relationship seeing as he’s traveling for work most of the time. We don’t know his family and we only know his friends because they’re also his partners. Liam for all his protective man in charge attitude still came off somewhat wooden. I never felt like his personality was too delved into, he was always on the go without the reader having time to really get to know him, let alone Allison.Regarding the characters, there was a lot of things that I think were unnecessary. There’s a lot of rambling about characters that aren’t that relevant for the book while important characters like Liam are barely developed. He spent most of the book away at work, spending weeks and weeks without saying a word to Allison and we know nothing about him. After I finished the book I can’t even say for sure if they had an extended conversation. They did have moments of chemistry but their interactions were such hit and runs, nothing ever felt flushed out. The beat in their relationship just felt off.Allison and Liam were two very analytical characters and that could be why they were harder to connect with as their thought patterns were pretty decisive but it also had them coming off a bit stiff. The over abundance of villains and obstacles thrown in their way was too much and clogged up the story.Even though I felt the heroine was too sweet, the hero was a bit cardboard cut-out, and one too many bad guys running around, Garwood’s writing still has a readability that can’t be denied.Originally published on TheLadyReader.com

I have been reading books written by Julie Garwood for over a decade. Her characters were generally fun, well developed, and interesting. Her plots were intelligent and not romantic trash. This book was dull. Dull is the only word for it. I wanted to smack the lead characters in the back of the head and wake them up. The female lead - seriously, I was so bored I cannot remember her name in the book - just let the male lead (Liam? Leo?) walk all over her. He made all of her decisions and she just went right along with it. And seriously, how many people can want to fight/kill/take advantage of/harm ONE female character? There were the evil aunt/uncle/cousin, the sister who was described as her bestie - then portrayed as a hag, the random former roommate who ends up being part of the big bad, the big bad, the big bad's hired thug, the guy at work who ended up being nothing but was maybe the big bad... I could go on and on. It's almost as if Julie Garwood had a clip art file of plot points that she'd randomly jotted down throughout the years and tossed them ALL into this one book. It was just stupid. So I'm out. I actually don't believe that the same person who wrote the Rose trilogy wrote this awful book. No more Julie Garwood for me. She's lost her energy and focus. This type of boring slop is something I'd expect to be pushed onto me as a freebie Kindle Unlimited self-published with crayon cover art. No thanks.

I purchased this book in hardcover. Apparently Amazon's "Pre-order with one click" doesn't work unless it's a kindle edition. I had to manually go through the order process. Then there's the actual book itself. The paper was one grade up from newsprint. I've bought paperbacks printed on better quality paper.It's difficult to say what was missing from the story, but something was. All the little details Garwood usually puts in her books to enrich the story just were not there. It definitely needed an epilogue. For all the buildup concerning the Detroit issue, the resolution was too simple.Not her best, but not her worst either.

Loved it. Julie Garwood is a brilliant storyteller. Really enjoyed the banter between the characters especially alec, noah and co. More please.

As normal unable to put down until the end. Would prefer to have more details about liam's job. Love the way characters from other books are included in the story.

Another brilliant novel by Julie Garwood, one of my all time favourite authors :)

Would recommend this book to anyone would is an avid reader thrills suspense from start to finish hooked through out

Wired returns readers of Ms Harwood's modern romantic thrillers to familiar territory. Set in Boston and featuring cameos from some of her most beloved characters, Wired is an easy and comfortable way to slip back into a fun and sexy verse. Her leads are immensely likeable, if a little cliched, and the supporting cast is peppered with old favourites from previous novels and some new and immediately likeable characters - crotchety agent Phillips being a memorable standout.I enjoyed Wired for what it is, a well paced romantic plot with likable characters and few surprises. It's a fun way to warm up a dreary winters afternoon.

Julie garwood is one of my top 5 favourites author and the Wedding book was my first book I read and enjoy reading. So thank you julie I have loved reading all your book's for the last 19 years and for though people's who haven't read any of her books give it a try. This book was fantastic again and hoping for another book soon

This was a fun light read. However, I am a long time Julie Garwood fan and didn't feel that this book was as well written as her previous books in her series. I was a little disappointed in the overall quality of the character development and felt that parts of the story line were "recycled" from previous stories in this series.

Another excellent read by Julie Garwood! No stars when I bought it but I didn't need them as I knew she would have me hooked when I opened the book. She did.I love her writing style - so smooth and effortless - as well as her gift for creating interesting characters and a strong story line. Each book is fresh and she never becomes formulaic or stale.

Very fun. I love her FBI series. I do believe that her older books had a little more character development but her sense of humor can't be beat. Truly an entertaining story with all the usual plot twists that we have grown to expect from this author.

I pre-ordered this book three times, with great expectations and was left a little disappointed. It was an ok read but nothing that kept me glued to my seat.

This has been a long wait and it is so worth it. I'm so satisfied with Liam and Allison's story. Julie Garwood has came back with a great story about a genius and a special agent that is definitely a page turner. 😊

I don't understand how this book topped the NY times bestseller list. The story is plain and simple. Truly disappointed.
