Excellent product to dye your food red!
I made loads of mini gingerbread house/villages and one large gingerbread house this Christmas and used a lot different different types of red gel food colouring as I was told gel food colouring is more concentrated than liquid food colouring. This is my first attempt at making red icing.I had small pots of red icing gel made byother well known companies, but I was gobsmacked by how much red dye I needed, it was getting crazy how many small pots I was using and struggled to get a deep red colour just to colour royal icing! So I decided I needed to find a better product and in a much larger size!Yes, this was the most expensive option but using this product made life so much easier! This dye come as a gel, but the difference is you only need to use A TINY amount where before I could get it a deep enough red. With this product I was only putting in A TINY amount on the tip of teaspoon (I didn’t have a cocktail stick which you usually use). I didn’t feel as bad as the amount I was previously used to be eaten. I really wanted to keep the food dye to a minimum! This is really catering size quantity/quality but if you have friends/family who enjoy baking red velvet cakes, colour fondant icing, royal icing and water icing, modelling chocolate, marzipan etc, my advice is to get this and split the cost between you, it will last you for a very very long time. Remember to record the use by date, and store in a plastic airtight container permanently out the way of children!!DON’T LET CHILDREN LOOSE WITH THIS FOR A SECOND! Make this used by adults only!It doesn’t have a child safe top on it, and it is designed to make things look like the colour of blood, as it says on the label! Also I don’t know how easy it is to get off of skin/clothes/walls/floors/furnishings/carpets etc, specially in the neat gel format?Once the red food colour is made up in the icing, again HIGHLY supervise children/pets, because you don’t want this getting everywhere and spoiling your Christmas! When I was doing gingerbread men decorating with over 60 children this Christmas, I stuck to using blue, white and green food colouring to be on the safe side. I didn’t want children ending up down A&E with frightened parents! I also stored all the red roofed gingerbread houses in an airtight plastic container to protect them from pets deciding to try and eat their way through one. Again I could do without the anxiety and vet bill’s thinking one was critically ill! It may sound silly but Im not joking. I use to be a nanny, paediatric nurse and a mother plus I’m a pet owner too and I really know what substances in the wrong hands can do! As we all know how far children’s paints can travel, super concentrated red food colouring wouldn’t be a good idea, you wouldn’t want your home to look like a horror movie set!In the right hands and being supervised constantly, this product will decorate any food item a glorious RED, very festive for Christmas!Have lots of fun! You have been pre warned about the possibility of mess!!I used plastic gloves when handling this raw and mixed up in the royal icing. I used the plastic gloves as I handled the red roofs as I iced them. I decorated each red roof before assembling the house and I allowed it to dry in a pet free/child free warm room overnight. This project is designed to have fun decorating with so please have lots of fun 🤩 😉!!
