Very well made
Most youngsters will enjoy playing and learning with this hedgehog. As expected, the packaging is superb; bright, colourful and good quality. It looks immediately appealing and on taking the hedgehog out, it’s clear to see and feel the quality of the mouldings. All rounded and unlikely to harm.Kids live sticking things in holes, so there’s the first hook. Linking that to the book and specific words, along with colour is an easy way to develop other skills. Excellent learning at play toy.

Great
Well made, strong educational toy. Very appealing with fun face and interesting spikes. The book felt a little disconnected from the act toy, can't quite put my finger on it, played with this toy with a friends 2 1/2 year old girl who was interested in both the book and toy but not really together. However, quality toy.

A wonderful fun learning toy for little ones
This comes beautifully packaged, it's bright and appealing at first glance. Inside there is the hedgehog, which is cute and contains holes at the top. The cards contain a word that when the child learns is rewarded by placing a coloured plastic spike into the holes on the hedgehog. The game is fun and safe for very young children, it's a lovely learning aid filled with enjoyment.

Great for fine motor skills
Brilliant toy. Wonderful bright colours. Is a very good toy that helps to work on children's fine motor skills. My kids love playing with this with my friend's toddler. Also works to promote good hand eye coordination.

Perfect for 18 month old's counting & motor skills
I've been trying to get my 18 month old playing with toys that actually have some educational use to her. She's at that age where she loves learning, and gets bored quickly.. And this has been a great toy to play with together.Pros:• Toddler loves taking the spikes in and out• Perfect for learning numbers and colours• Can store the spikes in the hedgehog bodyCons:• The spikes fall out fairly easilyI thought it was really cute that the toy comes with a book for learning first words. The book is actually pretty good, and it's fun explaining to your little one that Spike is in the book. It covers a good array of simple words, too.The toy itself, my little girl loves. The spikes are made of soft, squidgy plastic, and are smooth and thinner in the middle so she finds it easy to pick them up and angle them in the holes easier. She took to it quite quickly and understood what to do. Depending on the age of your child, you can do different games. You can just put the spikes in, count as they do it, get them to put them in on colour order or get them to put them in 1-12 as the holes are labelled with numbers.I literally only discovered a few weeks in you could remove the body (just pull it off, and it clicks back in) to store the spikes in. My rabbit had already taken a chunk from one so it's great you can safely put them away in one place and not lose them! Plus, as they're so long, if they knock anything they tend to just fall out so keeping the spikes in the hedgehog is a bit of a pain.I think this is definitely suitable and engaging for my daughter's age. The plastic toy itself and the book are good value together, and we've had loads of use out of it so far. It's a nice design and she will also solo play with it too.Great toy we'll be using for a while during her development. It's certainly aiding with her counting already, and I love that we can either play together or she can do it on her own. Just one star marked down for the spikes not being that secure - but this is more of an issue for us as we have pets!

Another first class Learning Resources educational toy
The five star reviews here aren't unfairly given: this is a really neat and cute learning resource. I don't know whether an 18-month old would be able to use it but for three years old and over, I'd say it's a well thought out and truly fun way to learn first words.

🦔 Spike The Hedgehog From Learning Resources 🦔
Learning Resources Spike The Hedgehog.I have been a fan of Learning Resources products for many years. They always combine learning with play, which is the perfect combination in my opinion.Spike the hedgehog set is very bright and colourful, and guaranteed to appeal to all younger children. This particular set is recommended for children 18 months plus. It teaches children with their first words, and fine motor skills. Like all other products from Learning Resources children enjoy playing so much, they don’t actually realise they're learning too.
