AutoExec GripMaster Car Desk in Gray Style: Retractable Writing Surface

I travel in my car extensively doing my job. I needed something to help me stay organized in my car. This unit does that for me? If I had one criticism, it would be that the front of the desk doesn't conform to the curve of the seat. In order to make the desk level, I had to prop it up by putting something under the back of the desk. I have read that it is big and it is. But that works for me. As an FYI, I drive a 2012 Camry, and I have to push the seat back quite a bit to be able to access the Glove Compartment. All that said, I like the desk, and recommend it highly.

It's basically the only product of its kind - to my knowledge, so I rounded up from 4.5 stars. The black, non-skid surface has started to detach/peel at one corner, but it still lays flat. I use mine in a 2002 Corolla (I'm able to partly open my glove box). It stays in place with seat belt, and doesn't move when in use. If you often have passengers, it may not be worth the hassle of constantly moving it - Something to keep in mind. The pull-out desk extension can withstand a reasonable amount of weight/pressure, sufficient for the vast majority of users. The hanging-file holder doesn't have tracks on each end to help guide the folders, but that is really a minor detail (it works just fine). Even though the pull-out desk extension is a fairly simple contraption, it's probably worth the higher price, since I use it all the time. I also use the empty space beneath the desktop as well, to keep things out of site (I use it more than expected). Before buying any AutoExec model from an Amazon seller, you should check out Costco.com first, just to compare prices. Overall, if you thought you could use something like this, even before you knew it existed, I doubt you will be disappointed with it.

Fits well in my 2014 Volt, but the rubber mat came unglued around the edges within the first week. If it wasn't such a hassle to return this item, I would have. Although it still works well, I paid too much for this product for it to be failing so soon. My car-office-desk looks very unprofessional. Expected more from this company (and frankly, I'm surprised Amazon still sells it).

I spend numerous hours in a vehicle and over the years I found it more difficult to just work out of a tote bag. I have looked at the Autoexe products over the past few years and decided to go with the Gripmaster version which put the clipboard slide out closer to me in the vehicle.I have used the Gripmaster for about a week now and I am completely satisfied with the desk. I don't use the file portion for its intended use, due the desk being pulled out daily. That being said, I love the easy setup of the desk. I use various electronic devices and the Gripmaster non-slip has worked out great. I thought about the laptop design model, but I figured the it would be a little hard for daily removal.The Autoexec desk seems to be designed well. Strong enough to handle the job, yet light enough to move in and out of the vehicle. Works well medium/large sized vehicles. Smaller vehicle may have to have the passenger seat full back. (in my opinion)I would recommend to friends and co-workers.

As a contractor, I need to work from my truck many times while on a job site. After trying a few different types of 'mobile' office setups, this is by far the best. It fits in the front passenger seat and stays firmly put with the seat belt strapped through the desk. The file holder, non-slip surface and lower storage area make this a compact and efficient tool for my business. It is also a quick, fully contained removal in the event I need to take it out for use of the seat. The only little drawback is that not all truck front passenger seats are designed the same. In my Ford truck, the seat itself has a low point which I had to build up with a folded beach towel to create a level platform for the desk and to create the height needed to pass the desk top over the center console area. A small problem not associated with the desk design at all. Other than that..perfect!

I like the idea of this and it very helpful when just need to work in my car, I just wish there were an area where the seat belt could secure it sadely, whenever I stop it reposition itself. other than that it's great

Excellent idea! I was so excited to get this for my son and surprise him at Christmas. I thought it would be the perfect organizational tool for him now that he has started his own business. It is a terrific idea, but, sadly, it is too large to fit into the cab of my son's work truck. He tried every way he could think of to make it fit, but, it wouldn't. Sadly, we have to return it, but, we highly recommend the idea of this item and think it is well constructed, so, if you take measurements first, it might work for you.

What a disappointment - the unit arrived damaged. As I opened the box, I found that the pull-out tray had ripped off from the hinge during transportation. The hinge was screwed onto the particle-board tray with 5 screws of 1/4" in length. Quarter-inch penetration into particle board is insufficient for any purpose.The packing was marginal; one would expect Styrofoam or cardboard support for the items which would be in stress during transportation. Now I'm out $40 for the expedited shipping (it was a last-minute gift) plus I have to pay to return the crap. [ UPDATE: Vendor PlexSupply refunded all, including shipping both ways. That was wonderful, thanks team. ]On the positive, the outside case appear to be very strong, thick molded plastic.[ UPDATE: I've searched for alternatives but really there isn't anything that comes close. So I ordered another directly from the manufacturer. ]
