King of Spades: Wonderland Trilogy, Book 1

I feel like I read something that is just so good. I felt like I am in wonderland.Lyriope is woman who grew up knowing she is the daughter of a mobster. Her father is the head of the Morellis family. She never met her father and there is no doubt that he doesn’t know she exists. She lands into some trouble because of her mom and borrows money from a russian crime family. She bails her mom and stepfather so much and this time it was too far. She is being hunted by them for her payment. One day she goes to a party hosted by her “not family” family and sees Nick. He is a club owner for Wonderland where all the rich can go to play. She has a fascination with him. He offers her a deal, he will escort her safely from the party, because the russians found her, and she would have to “do the deed” with him or he can let her fend for herself. She goes with the deal and he gets her out….. Sounds good right?? I know, now go read it because this book was addictive and spicy.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟is not enough! King of Spades (Wonderland #1) by Alta Hensley. This book! Where to start? Well I started with the prequel novella The White Rabbit, which piqued my interest and left me wanting more so after finishing it I immediately purchased King of Spades. You don’t have to read The White Rabbit, as this prequel novella forms the first part of King of Spades. Lyriope ( the secret, illegitimate daughter of Bryant Morelli) has gotten herself into a spot of bother, the kind that can get you killed. Enter Nick Hudson. Protective ✅ Possessive ✅ Controlling ✅ Sexy as hell ✅ Punishing ✅✅✅ And don’t get me started on Wonderland which is the brainchild of Nick. Wonderland provides the gathering spot where both villains and angels can mix together with one thing in common. They all have the power to do whatever they want, whenever they want as long as they follow the rules, which are simple, black and white and nonnegotiable. No business can be conducted in Wonderland, except as part of a tea party (let’s just say no, not your usual tea party!) No VIP status since Wonderland is an equal playground for all lucky enough to be on the list. No violence, regardless of whether your enemy is drinking beside you. No bashfulness and the final rule, the most important one, Nick Hudson can break any of his rules.Oh how I wish I could fall down a rabbit hole and find myself in Wonderland. The description of the parties is absolutely sublime and a visual spectacle. When our virginal Lyriope goes to Wonderland (uninvited) she sets off a chain of events finding herself in a situation that she did not expect. This ends up with her entering into a contract with Nick Hudson. As I don’t want to include any spoilers, let’s just say that Nick’s contract with Lyriope did not include the usual of putting pen to paper! 🔥🥵This story had me hooked and my only complaint is that as soon as I finished reading it in record time and went to one-click buy the sequel Queen of Hearts, I realized that it will only be released in July 2022 book 3 of Wonderland, Ace of Diamonds will be releasing in October). Well I suppose that’s in keeping with Nick’s restraint and delayed gratification.

Liked this story and I am curious as to what is so important about Lyriope. Is it an arranged marriage? Heir to a fortune? It can't be a loving family...that is evident? Italy of all places, interesting. She doesn't know anything about Italy or the family there. ????????

But the darkness inside them draws them to each other.This is a fabulous book with plenty of 🌶 (I'll never look at a certian pen the same) while the plot line and characters are vibrant and flawed. You find yourself wanting Lyropie to soften some of Nicks hardness. All the while wanting Nick to finally make good on their agreement to dirty her up.This book is part of the Midnight Dynasty series and fits in perfectly. The characters that have popped in are just as they were in their own books. Let's just say July is to far away for the next book.

Alta Hensley where have you been my whole life? This is the first book I have read by the author. It most definitely won’t be the last. She has the ability to suck you deep into this world and characters she has created. I was spellbound and unwilling to let my attention be drawn away.Nick Hudson is what we all dream of. Someone that looks rough, acts harshly but is a good person below the specially crafted appearance. Lyriope shows a tough and fearless image to all, but Nick sees her. He knows and sees how she acts tough but in reality she puts on her own show. The story of these two will have your mind exploding. By the end of King of Spades you will be aware that these two have a strong connection. They are drawn together like magnets that nothing can separate. It will be interesting to see what is in store for us in Queen of Hearts.The end of King of Spades has Lyriope escaping Nick to protect him. It is obvious that he won’t let her stay hidden from him. I can’t wait to see what unexpected twists that the next story takes as this was incredible.What a collection of authors Dangerous Press has given us!ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

Nick is a possessive antihero, he enjoys his time playing with Lyriope.There is intense chemistry between both characters but they are both denying there feelings.I love the little references to Alice in Wonderland,can’t wait to see where this story goes!

I really enjoy this dark romance, although I must warn you may discover a new kink. We intern in an Alice in Wonderland for grownups. Nick makes parties for strange reasons and those parties are called Wonderland. It’s imaginative. During those parties, Nick does meetings. He calls them: my «tea party» rather funny when you read the book and you know how he got rich.The character is intriguing. I want to know more other than that he is hot and has tattoos. We see multiple parts of him with Lyriope. The sex scenes are hot but not for everyone. Let’s talk about Lyriope. I feel like she doesn’t really know herself, but she is strong and thinks about others rather than herself. I love when she doesn’t follow the rules of Nick. The only thing that stopped me from giving five stars, it’s the end. It keeps me unsatisfied. Something was missing.

I enjoyed this story about Lyriope Bailey (Morelli) and Nick Hudson. I enjoyed their journey and I cannot wait to read the next book in this trilogy.

Great continuation of the Bishops Landing universe. Can’t wait for the next instalment. Have not been disappointed in any of the books so far. It’s great to see how different authors address this universe and Alta doesn’t disappoint
