It's not a tear jerker but is a touching movie. Worth the watch. I have watched this movie at least once a year every year, sometimes up to thrice for the past 10 years at a minimum. It's just a great watch.

This movie is one of my favorites. I laugh, I cry. Whoopi Goldberg, Ray Liotta and Tina Majorina were phenomenal in their roles. The kids were so cute. Too many movies now are full of violence. We need more movies like this. I will watch it over and over.

I wasn't sure I would like this movie, but it turned out to be tender (BOTH characters were respectful of what the other had gone through) without being sappy, a bit slow-moving so you felt better about the guy falling in love again after losing his wife, and handled the racial tensions quite well, I thought--but I'd be interested to know how a person of color would like this movie. Whoopi was amazing (and a slightly different character than what I've seen her in other movies--a nice change for me!), and Liotta's interaction with Whoopi was satisfying. I would have liked to see a little more "daddy" behavior--show some real emotion and tenderness with your little girl who is hurting so badly after losing her mom, but the behavior is not totally unbelievable; many men have difficulty dealing with deep emotions outwardly. I suppose this is somewhat idealistic; it sort of gives the idea that love conquers all, when in real life things don't always work out as well. (A couple having to deal with the deep-seated prejudices of family and friends can't always make it work--it's not a walk in the park!) But, I WILL watch this movie again. Ignore the be-raters and try it, if you enjoy a good romance with some depth to it. It is definitely a feel-good watch.

I first watched this as a little girl & with Ray recently passing saw someone post the movie and decided to watch it as a adult. This has got to be one of the best movies ever made, from the writing to the acting its just impeccable. The range of emotions man, one minute I'm broken hearted crying then I'm happy tears, then I'm broken and happy again lol just such a good movie. Its so sad that certain people in the film industry have been trying to show people for years that people are just people & we're all more alike than we think but yet the world is still struggling on such a basic thing. I have to say some of these movies must have made a lasting impression on me as a young girl because I've always loved, love and people just as they are.

This is one of my absolute favourite films, it is a mixture of happiness, sadness and humour, Molly's character is intriguing as we don't often get to see the aftermath of grief from a childs perspective, and Whoopi Goldberg's character is a balance of a caring and good humoured nature which helps molly get through her loss, and opens up her personality to create a brighter and happier future for her. All throughout the film Goldberg's character doesn't replace Molly's mum but just helps Molly's heart start to heal and remember her mum in happiness.

What a lovely film! Heartwarming & feel good. Superb acting throughout. A real family film! Would recommend!

i love this film, already had it on video but i have been waiting to see it on DVD, so was chuffed when i did. It's funny, sweet and very well acted, whoopie Goldberg is a nanny and very good at it she brings out the best in the other cast, well worth watching, It's good to see a film that joins different cultures well, and lets people see that whatever race we are we are all the same.

A very heart warming story about a nanny who manages to communicate with a withdrawn child, following the death of her mother... a good love story too!

I purchased this DVD from music magpie, I had never seen this vintage movie of Whoopi Goldberg's before! But being a real big fan of Whoopi Ithought it would be just as good and entertaining as all her other movies! I was right it was a very good movie, really enjoyed it. Ms Goldberg wasat her usual excellent acting best, glad I brought it.
