Another enjoyable tale
Another fantasy from Susan Copperfield that I greatly enjoyed. The references to child marriage in the USA were horrifying. I’m thankful I don’t live there! Thank you for the information in the forward.

Good buy
I really liked Marshall, even though I could fully understand how he drove everyone nuts. Veronica is simply awesome, and although Adam was obviously very depressed and down at the start of the book, he still managed to pull enough of himself through to save the day. And that horse!

Just finished re-reading for the 3rd(?) Time!!
As all of Susan Copperfield/ RJ Blain' s books, this one was excellent! It doesn't disappoint at all! It even improves with re reading, finding new bits that may have been missed the first time around! I have the next book, Huntress, in my library for a bit... saving it , but I'm going to have to read it now... I really want more of the Royal States! At least I know that it will stand up to being re read too!

A guiding light is another excellent entry in the Royal States world.
A guiding light is another excellent entry in the Royal States world. Spoilers ahead.******************************************************************We meet Adam who has spent 18 years trying to live with a broken heart and find meaning while living without contact with the girl he is empathically bonded to or his birth family. Adam has some serious issues (depression, with a tendency to not care if he lives or dies) that get addressed some in the book. The book also covers the serious issues of child marriage betrothals and spousal and child abuse/violence.Thanks to the short timeline and limited geographic area covered by this book the plot of the novel is tighter and less broad in scope than previous entries in the series. For me this is a plus, as I never got confused on the character's motivations as they changed over time or locations. The author doesn't include sex in her storylines, but this book had a smoother transition from before to after intimacy so that as a reader I wasn't confused about the time jumps. Also I found the inclusion of the social issue (child betrothals and betrothals for breeding magic talents) was better incorporated at the center of the plot than the sexual assault storyline in A Captive King. Again, for me this is a plus, your mileage may vary.Overall I liked Adam as a character and was happy to see him get the happy ending he didn't dare hope for. I loved the interactions between Adam and the young Prince throughout the book. And would love to have more time with Prince Marshal, the Doctor, and the RPS agents. One thing I would love to see is a few scenes from the second protagonists POV. I loved RJ's Winter Wolf even more once I read Tales of a Winter Wolf. And I'd love to see a few scenes or an epilogue from the heroine's POV in A Guiding Light (and all of Susan/RJ's books).

What a great story - enjoyed every moment
What a great story - enjoyed every moment. Devoured this in one sitting, and looking forward to re-reading it again soon. This was written in Adam's POV - very different to most books as they are normally from the female perspective.A very intricate book; the stock market crash which shows amazing detail, in-depth thoughts on law changes plus a wonderful (albeit delayed :)) romance between two soul mates. It was a very well thought out story and I am looking forward to reading more about the other states - perhaps Hawaii??

Must read!
The Royal States Novels are excellent! Copperfield's world is truly unique. Awesome read, with excellent characters new and familiar. Magic, family, kings and queens, friends and punny word play makes this series fun and a must read!Under the super not-so-secret identity of Susan (RJ Blain) the Royal States of America is explored, where the work of sixteen founding royal families preserved the United States from destruction and civil war when magic swept over the world.I highly recommend this book and series! You should purchase these because you're going to want to read and re-read these over and over!
