Is there any way to dim the LED so it's not so bright?

see my review below for explanation but yes. if you can do a little soldering. on the back of the board, marked "R2" a resistor labeled 330. remove it. replace with 330 ohm 1/4 watt resistor. the resistor feeds the backlight. the original labeled 330 is 33 ohm. the new is perfect in my opinion. not too bright but light enough to easily read.

What gage wire can fit the connectors?

if you simply stick wire in around 12 gauge. if you use a fork spade, 10 gauge otherwise itll be a wire Frey mess

If this device gets wired between the battery and inverter wire the wire so thin?

I only use only a small device 75 watts.

Does the device retain settings when power is removed?

Yes, however you have to go back through a small start up sequence if power is completely disconnected.
