How does the top attach to whatever?

It has a tack on the outside top, and when you pull out the inside and uncoil it, hold on to that. You can then use the tack and the top to attach it onto a wall, window or doorframe.

I can have a fly or two annoying me and my dog all day long and they just keep flying past these. Is there anyway to make them actually attract flies?

No. They are so sticky it’s a chore just to get them unrolled and hung up. If you have several flies around, you will see more stuck to this stuff.

Can I leave it in a hot car for days and weeks at a time?

Yes I done this to an old van but in a few days I had to replace them . I had 2 of them in it and they were completely full. I was grossed out and amazed at the same time!!

Does this work for fruit flies too?

I bought the fly paper to get rid of fruit flies. It arrived and before I even opened the package the fruit flies were gone. Really. Maybe it was storing the fruit in refrigerator or some other forgotten action that removed the flies' food supply. I keep the fly paper in a convenient place in case it is need.
