Why is it that the bristles are on the outside? Also which side does the insert seal bit go?

The bristles are in the centre panel that fits in the aperture cut into the door. The two flaps fit on either side, one inside one outside.

What is the distance between the screw holes?

The distance between the centre of the screws is 275mm.

You will need to cut the aperture in your door for the letterbox to fit in. You cannot cut the letterbox to fit.
