It's Health Drink Meets Delicious Dessert
Last January I reviewed Cocozia’s 11.1 oz tetra paks. I was already a big fan of coconut water since it’s naturally gluten free, rich in magnesium, potassium and other electrolytes, and I just love the flavor. To me, nothing else feels quite as hydrating when I drink it. I also particularly liked the fact that Cocozia is Certified Organic, Kosher, contains no GMO's or preservatives. Being a company that is Fair Trade Licensed is very nice too.Unfortunately my young daughter doesn't share my coconut water enthusiasm. The first time she tasted it she just shook her head and handed it back. But she does like the smoothies I whip up for her with coconut water as the main ingredient. When Cocozia started producing their 16.9 oz packaging I again reviewed it touting the benefits of hydration to ward off colds and flus. I also spoke of how it was easy to use coconut water as an ingredient in homemade soups or pilafs and again my daughter was receiving the benefits of coconut water without have to drink it directly. And the larger packages with a screw cap made it easier for me to get just the amounts I needed. Now I've got my hands on Cocozia’s chocolate coconut water. It's delicious. It almost reminds me of a healthier version of the YooHoo I often drank as a child. It’s almost like dessert meets health food.I loved it but the big question is whether or not my daughter would like it? Actually I was wondering if she'd even try it considering she already has negative feelings towards coconut water? Since she’s a huge chocolate I was cautiously hopeful. To my disbelief she loved it. We got a case not too long ago and it's gone. Did I mention that she's already asking for more.In my opinion, if you know someone that loves chocolate but hates coconut water they'll probably be clamoring for more.I feel like this is the drink that can keep you from eating that chocolate bar you're trying to avoid. But as much as I love this new version, I actually prefer the plain variety because it’s what I've grown accustomed to when I think about coconut water. I also like the fact that the plain variety can be used in either sweet or savory dishes. Additionally, the original variety is 40 calories per 8 oz serving while the chocolate variety has 60. And as far as the ingredients lists compare with each other, the original variety contains only coconut water, while the chocolate variety also contains: organic coconut milk, organic cane sugar, organic cocoa powder, organic guar gum and salt.I suspect it’s the addition of the cane sugar and cocoa that has my daughter so excited. Still this is a much healthier alternative to soft drinks for her. It's a drink you can feel good about.Looks like I’ll be buying two cases next time. We’re halfway through the cold and flu season and so far I haven’t been sick yet but you can rest assured that I’ll be keeping my pantry stocked with both varieties just encase.I LOVE THIS STUFF.

Good, but a little high on sugar
I was offered a free sample of this product for an honest review.I have to be honest, I probably never would have tried Cocozia without the offer. I don't do a lot of speciality and flavored waters. But I'm glad I took a chance on this product. Overall, the taste was good and it has more uses that just as coconut water.TasteThere is an aftertaste that took me a second to identify. Coconut. Yes, I know, it's coconut water, but it was just so different from the coconut milks and oils I'm used to, it took a little getting used to. However, it didn't keep me from enjoying the product. It was just stronger than I had expected. Not unpleasant - and it was different from the unsweetened shredded coconut flakes I use.UsesYou can use this product for more than just a drink. It's great in smoothies and I'm using it in dessert recipes to see how it will substitute in dairy-free recipes. If I don't add additional sugar - or use a touch of Stevia - then I can still keep the sugar content low.Sugar contentThis product was really good, but it has a lot of sugar per serving. One container has 2 servings, with each serving containing 13 grams of sugar. That is quite a bit. - but lower than candy bars, some gluten-free bars and other sugary drinks. I just have to make sure I don't use more than a serving per container.Overall, this is a good product for anyone who enjoys creative cooking with dairy alternatives, don't like plain water and want something a little sweet when hydrating.
