Macro Aqua M-80 Hang-on Back Skimmer with DC Pump and Controller, Black

This is an exceptional skimmer. Very quiet. It has many adjustment features. The separate controller has 4 motor speeds and a on / off switch. Be patient it took 5 days of adjusting and cup overflowing with thick foam until it settled down. Once broken in it is working perfectly ! Does not produce to many air bubbles in to tank. Overall construction is 70 % quality. Great skimmer for the money.

As another reviewer stated the O-ring at the top leaks, shame on me for placing me $4,000 computer under the desk by my 15gallon Nano tank, this thing leaked into my computer and fried it... Trust me, the skimmer worked well but this is a serious design flaw. DO NO BUY THIS, unless your want to risk flooding your house or draining your ATO since this just will overflow until it runs out of water.... MY Fault on placing a computer under water, Manufacturer fault for a poor design and quality... Not happy, lets see if the manufacturer reaches out and what kind of service they have , photo is after the unit was off the tank and dried a few days

Updated from the smaller Macro Aqua protein skimmer, which worked for years (for $50) but the motor was starting to seize from corralline. I upgrade to the 80 and all I can say is WOW. First day, it already has a dark brown collection cup. Took me weeks to get that performance on other skimmers. Lot of ways to adjust the skimmer (3 ways) to get the right tuning of wet/dry. Hands down best HOB Protein Skimmer you can get when you dont have a sump!

I will echo the review left by 'GoNDeep11'. I have had the exact same experience. This skimmer worked great until it started leaking water all over the floor. One of my family members slipped in the puddle left on the tile floor and was hurt pretty badly. Water comes out from under the gray adjustment knob at the top of the unit for no apparent reason. I WOULD NOT recommend buying this skimmer.

The media could not be loaded. I give 4 star just because the O ring on the bubble chamber leak through creating a solid salinity residue and I have to clean that every dayI have to run to the store and buy a O ring the fit tied again the reservoir wallSo my take on this is the manufacturer fix this problem.

This thing is awesome a real workhorse when it comes to hob skimmer I had the smaller one first and loved it then when.i saw they made a bigger one I had to get it and I will be buying another

Product delivered and does not work thinking a fuse i opened up control unit to learn someone put it in water wires were rusted to dust mildew and corrosion all over circuit board. No quality control will not buy any product from Amazon damaged or used.

Takes a few days to get a good skim. But works well after break in.

Excellent skimmer. Takes a week or so to get dialed in and start skimming, but after that, it works great. It's extremely quiet and doesn't create a lot of micro bubbles. Now that I've had it running a few weeks, there are no micro bubbles at all. The adjustment knobs are held in place with o-rings, so as long as you are pressing down on them when making adjustments, you won't have any leaking problems. It's nice that it has an overflow tube you can route back into your tank, in case there's ever an issue with over skimming. I personally wouldn't buy a hang on back skimmer without an overflow for the collection cup. So far, very happy with the purchase.
