Works Like A Charm - Only Wish I Knew About This Years Ago!
Update 8/14: works amazingly well. After being away over a month the hot tub levels remained perfect and water clear. Photos added. Original: I only wish I knew about this years ago. I converted my pool to salt water years ago and love it. One of the best features is that it only cycles on (smarterspa model) when the sanitizer level drops below a certain threshold. This is great for us because our hot tub is covered, and used irregularly in terms of frequency and number of occupants, so manning the chemicals has always been a challenge. Day 1, I installed it, it ran a cycle at level 3 (default) with only 2/3 of the weight of salt recommended in the manual as per the youtube video recommendation. The sanitizer level rose to pool levels but needed to be higher for a spa, so I increased to level 4 and later that day it cycled again. Day 2, spa levels are all perfect with sanitizer levels at the desired level for a spa. This was SO EASY! Now, my hope is that the unit has longevity. From my pool salt chlorine generator experience, my expectation is at least 3 years, hoping for 5. I hope to come back here to update my review if my expectations are not met, especially if it dies within a year. My only negative is that the video on youtube by the manufacturer talks about being able to install this inside the housing attached to the spa electrical (advanced install) but I did not see any instructions for this. I will try to reach out but I would have liked to see instructions and/or a video online demonstrating this. We are very excited about this, and although the price is not as low as I would like, it is still in an acceptable range for the convenience and chemical cost savings if it lasts at least 3 years, in my opinion. It is priceless in terms of the improvement to the water quality for my skin, however, and as such as totally worth it.

Honest Review After 1 Year
In September 2022 I purchased a new Jacuzzi J-245 hot tube to replace an old one. One thing I didn't like about my old hot tube was all the chemicals that needed to be added to keep the water clear and sanitary. Often, due to lack of use or overuse, the water would get cloudy. It also frequently smelled of the chemicals that constantly needed to be added. My brother has a saltwater hot tub and loves it. So, even though my new hot tube was not a saltwater model, I decided to convert it by adding salt and the ControlOMatic Chlorine Generator. I purchased the ControlOMatic on Oct 24th 2022 and immediately installed it. It's now been in operation for 11 months. It's been wonderful and a night and day difference in my hot tube experience. It took a week or two to dial it in. Once that was done, it has worked flawlessly. It keeps my water crystal clear at all times. I only add a couple tablespoons of powdered shock once a month. I use my hot tube almost everyday year round. My typically routine is to hit the manual "on" button every time I finish using the hot tube. I set my ControlOMatic to level "5" which seems to be perfect for my hot tube. I do the normal maintenance of submerging the end of the ControlOMatic in vinegar every month or so for 15 to 30 minutes. I change my hot tube water every 6 months. It seems like my new hot tube is maintenance-free compared to my old hot tube. I like not smelling like chlorine after using the tube and not having to worry about forgetting to add chemicals when I'm on vacation for a week or two. I don't know how long this device will last, but I will definitely buy another one as soon as it fails. My hot tube dealer did not recommend that I convert my new Jacuzzi to saltwater and told me that I would be voiding the warranty, but I listened to my brother instead and went ahead with the conversion to saltwater. I'm so glad I did! I think my dealer had his own interests in mind because I haven't purchased any chemicals from him in almost a year now. Anyway, that has been my experience with this device. I love it and will not go back to constantly adding chemicals. I hope this helps you with your decision. :)

Looks like it's working, but testing says NO
Comes on and adjusts like the manual states, you see bubbles leaving the generator when it claims to be running, so far so good. I have the large Megachlor-CD for my 1500gal hot tub and it will not keep chlorine in the tub. I do not have a cover and live in South Texas, however, at my previous house I had an uncovered 20,000 pool with a salt water gen (another brand) and it worked great. Plenty of chlorine and once I had it dialed in it stayed stable. This unit is for a 15,000 pool and yet cranked all the way up it won't keep chlorine in a body of water 1/10 it's rated size. Salt is about 3000 and other chems are there. Better to spend twice as much for a unit that delivers.

So far, so good
I wanted to try something new after adding chlorine to my hot tub for years. Also, salt water seems to be a healthier alternative to chlorine, even though this generates the lesser form of chlorine. I will say, I was afraid of putting an electrode in the water since putting some sort of power in water is always a bad idea. I have had no issues with this being in my hot tub. The benefits I have noticed is that the chlorine smell is a lot less, it feels better on the skin. Obviously the cost up front is big, but in the long run it will be cheaper. I love not having to throw anything in the hot tub after we use it or having to add supplemental chlorine because it burned off. Is having the app worth it? For setup, it is great. For normal use, its nice to see if I need to add more salt. I honestly haven't used the app for 2 months and the lights and levels and everything are perfect. If you are on the fence of getting this or the lesser model. Up to you. This is a great system and it should save you money in the long run.
