Excellent dog door!
An amazing dog door. I bought a smaller one from this brand back in 2018 and loved it, so I bought a bigger one when I got a bigger dog and still love it. The one currently in my door has been there for years, and I've never had a problem with it. I can easily lock it when needed, and it holds up great in California winters, so I can't say much about how it deals with snow. I went through several different dog doors in the beginning of my search and returned them all until this one. It fit perfectly and was super easy to install. I can't think of a single complaint when it comes to this dog door.

Easy to install.
Great product. Our 2nd one. The first one lasted 24 years. Even our little one (25 pounds) and lots of foster dogs were able to use this doggie door. I (female) had no problems installing it.

Missing template
I gave this 5 stars since even with the missing template I was able to install the door in about an hour. I bought the same exact door 7 years ago on Amazon and it’s currently installed on an exterior metal door. Didn’t notice much difference - they’re both sturdy, functional, etc. I did notice that “offwhite” color is now light gray instead of light beige. I was expecting them to match but oh well. I bought this to install on an interior door (to basement) that’s 2 inches thick and hollow so I needed the telescopic frame to hide the interior of the door. I previously had a smaller cat door on it but it didn’t have a deep frame and I was using tape to protect the interior of the door (to give you a mental pic of how awful it looked). I have an average handiness level, so measured the size hole needed and marked it with a pencil. Then laid down blue painters tape along the lines to prevent my cheap door from chipping out, and cut the hole with a jigsaw. Fit the frame in and screwed both sides together. I would say the screws were the hardest part. I had to hand tighten each one rather than using the drill because they were such a tight fit and I was afraid the plastic frame would crack. Got them all in with a bit of elbow grease and the door looks great!

Replace a medium size ideal with this XL
I like the Ideal pet doors. They are durable, sell replacement flaps and have the best covers for doggie door (when not in use) in the business. We needed a larger opening door as we adopted an Australian Cattle Dog and she was barely squeezing through the medium door. I cut the door on the hinges to the size of the outside opening of the receiving screw panel. DO NOT cut an opening like direction tell you to-DO NOT use the door covering as a template-It is too big-there will not be enough door surface for the doggie door to press up against for proper installation I was about to use it and then came to my senses. If I did, I asked myself, wouldn't the opening be too large? There must be some door support for the dog door panels to set up against. I'm glad that I realized this before committing to cutting. Wear safety glasses and a mask. The door is a little too big but there is no size in between med. and Xl. Too bad. Oh well, great product, they just need to change their directions for cutting-maybe a paper template to trace/tape on the door and the need in between sizes. Overall, good product, but one star off for improper directions.

Easy to install and use!
Value for money: Easy to install after watching video instructions. Looks great and dogs immediately took to it. Well made and sturdy, too.

Very straightforward to install
I am NOT an expert handyman, but the instructions were so straightforward to install, it gave me the courage to purchase. Used the template as directed, drilled pilot holes as directed, used saw as directed, installed as directed. Put in the side of my garage to allow a group of semi-feral cats -- who were born in my garage -- opportunity to access an outdoor cat enclosure and keep them safe from local predators, such as the neighborhood's roaming coyote. The magnetic "latch" at the bottom of the flap required a bit of experimentation before the cats figured it out, but now they've got it. LOVE the fact that there is a guillotine-type panel that slides into the top from the inside portion to prevent access to the door at night when I want the cats inside the garage or when there is inclement weather. Excelelnt product.

Nice value with a few shortcomings
This door looks good installed, install time was about 45 minutes for me. It took a little longer because it was too wide for my screen door which was an inch and a quarter. Ilooks good installed, install time was about 45 minutes for me. It took a little longer because it was too wide for my screen door which was a inch and a quarter. I had to use a quarter inch piece of wood to go around to take up the extra space so it would be a tight fit. And that took about 15 minutes extra. I love how the door is clear and easy to see through. We are using it for our medium size mini goldendoodle who will be about £30 but has long legs. When it says it has a tight seal(of course everybody says their doggie door is a tight seal) they might be exaggerating a bit. But since I got this for my screen porch and it’s unheated, I was willing to go with the less expensive door in this area. Overall, I would say it’s an easy door to put in on a decent value for the money as long as you know its shortcomings. Also other people had mentioned that if you use the slide in panel to measure the cut out it’s too big, so I used my own measurements and it worked out fine. It’s always safer to cut out something slightly smaller and then cut more out as needed. Cause you can’t put back what you’ve cut out.
