NISEMONOGATARI, Part 2: Fake Tale

Excellent book, and please let your arm-chair localization efforts go
Nisemonogatari is an amazing follow up to NISIOISIN's first part and is expertly translated by James Balzer. Yes, I read the other reviews that take umbrage with this translator's choice of diction, but none of those choices detract from the story in any way. In addition, I felt that Balzer's ability to capture the archaic vernacular used by Shinobu was deft and lended itself to the overall verisimilitude of her character. The only localization choice I felt could have been improved specifically was "鬼のお兄ちゃん," which I admit is a complicated decision considering "oniichan" both carries the weight of "older brother" and also "sir" (though the "chan" honorific often denotes an intimacy not often related to "sir"). It's a tough choice considering that localization intends to reach a larger audience than those who are particularly in tune with the intricacies of the Japanese language. That digression aside, the story is as captivating and poignant as you'd expect from a work by NISIOISIN. If you can put aside the inconsequential localization qualms, then I expect any fan of the series will fully enjoy this book.

Not the best in the series but still a great read.
As always the cover art by Vofan is stunning. This was probably my least favorite of all the Monogatari series (the ones that have been translated into English at least). But having said that, it is still very much worth the read. Parts of it had me laughing out loud. Both this one and the Karen Bee arc are much more lighthearted than Kizu, both Neko's, or any of the three Bake's. There isn't nearly as much emotional investment as there was in the others, but that's also part of the appeal. It's just a good ole, fun story that is a breeze to read quickly and makes you laugh in typical Nisioisin fashion.

Can't get enough of this series!
This volume contains that (in)famous toothbrush scene. A well-written masterpiece in and of itself, part of a greater body of work that just leaves you wanting more. It isn't any wonder why the writer continues on this series - it never fails to deliver a fantastic read. I especially enjoy reading the Afterword. The insight into a writer's mind is very coolThere is just such an honesty in these books. None of Araragi's thoughts are kept hidden, for good or ill.

Beautiful quality as always, the story is a bit slow in this one though
As you probably know already, these books come in beautiful quality, my only complain for this one was the story was a bit slow going compared to bakemonogatari or kizumonogatari, more apparent in this part than Karen's part. It doesn't go into Tsukihi's story until like 70% of the book but it is a really surprising one after that so it's worth it. I'm waiting to read the books first before jumping into the anime but it seems like nisemonogatari at least would be better in the anime.

This was Platinum Great
This was an excellent conclusion to the 2 part Nisemonogatari books. As always reading the light novels give so much more detail to every characters thought processes and helps us understand them even better. Nisioisin always does a phenomenal job fleshing everyone out and making every conversation have an impact of some sort. Idk how he always does it but somehow even while starting a story by telling the viewers the conclusion of it all he leaves feeling shocked and surprised regardless. I can't wait to read the next volume ^_^.
