I compared this to a ceramic flap disc of another brand. I was grinding 1/2 by 1 1/2 steel flat bar with some powder coat and these discs gummed up less from the powder coat melting and smearing on the metal than the ceramic disc, and lasted quite long while grinding a bevel on the ends of the flat bar. After grinding welds and contouring the metal for 20 minutes, there was maybe 10 percent wear on the flap disc.

This flap wheel is not the best, we use them at work for around 12 times the price. This whole box of wheels cost less than one of the wheels at work. I would say I get about 70% of the life out of these with a grind that is good not to aggressive and very clean. Do to being extremely affordable this is all I plan to use at home so long as the price stays good. By trade I am a fabricator and I burn a lot of flap wheels and at this price I'm impressed.

purchased these for sanding stain off my log home. used only the 120 grit as the others looked too aggressive. i used 4.5 inch grinder. the rpms were a little too much for wood sanding, but if you could cut down the rpms this disc would be the answer.. Disc clogged a bit but compressed air once in awhile fixed that issue right up. held up well.
