Smallmouth Bass Fishing for Everyone: How to Catch the Hardest Fighting Fish That Swims

I loved the book but one area confused me for a bit, on the Jerkbait chapter, the Jerkbait was always referred to as a dropshot. A Jerkbait is not a dropshot. The chapter was titled Jerkbait and the top of the page always said Jerkbait but every single reference to the bait said "dropshot" so I'm assuming this was a mistake which could be very confusing to an angler just trying to learn about Smallmouth fishing. I'm sure this was not Mr. Roots error, probably an editing error, that being said, the information is totally 5 stars even with this error. If you are already a Smallmouth fisherman or want to become one (especially if you want to become one) Read This Book! Just keep in mind a Jerkbait is not a Dropshot, the Dropshot chapter is right after the Jerkbait chapter.

Jim Root is a great writer and a genuinely good person. This book is packed with technique specific information. I have read as many books as I can find on bass fishing and this one is the most informative. A great book for any fisherman looking to get started or improve their skills.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. A lot of great information and written very well. Keeps you engaged! Highly recommended for anyone looking for new techniques and specifics on how to catch smallmouth in many bodies of waters. Good read!

I enjoyed the book so much I've read it twice. It doesn't matter if you're brand new to smallmouth or fished them for years, there's definitely a lot of take away/knowledge to gain from reading. There's no 'sponsor plugs' like you find in a lot of high caliber anglers' books but you will see some specific named bait/lures but backed by how Jim applies those lures/bait and why. My favorite aspect about the book is it's almost like I'm sitting and talking with the author and having a conversation. The material is easily understood and broken down which is awesome if you're new. Like I mentioned, doesn't matter how much smallmouth experience you have, there's going to be something to take away. HIGHLY recommend!

I was looking for a “How to” source and was very disappointed. It has lots of illustrations but they are almost all pictures of people holding large fish, not details of lure or useful diagrams. He discusses many different lures and it seems that every one of them is his favorite. If you are looking for stories about the time me and my buddies caught big fish, then you might like the book

Book is ok and theres some decent information. However, there were actual mistakes in the book! For example chapter 12 is titled jerkbaits but it references drop shoting (the chapter was definitely jerkbait related btw). Another error was on page 85 titled Donkey Kong rig but the remainder of the section is not discussing a double fluke rig which btw IS covered on page 93. Other minor issue is that he mentions when the water is low it spreads fish out which is just not correct, it concentrates them. Finally I was hoping he would have provided more tips on techniques on using certain baits. For example he could have gone into more detail on various retrieves for a spinnnerbait or texas rig. He does at times provide that extra added insight with some other baits but just not consistently throughout the entire book which is why I gave it a fair rating of 3 stars.

Jim Root's advice on fishing for smallmouth bass is presented simply and thoroughly in a way that's easy for the layman to understand. I guarantee that you will become a better smallmouth angler having read this book. I live close to Jim and fish in many of the same waters, and I can attest to the accuracy of his evaluations of these fisheries. His lure techniques and gear strategies will help you become a better angler. If you want to catch more fish, this is the book for you!

This is hands down one of the best fishing books iv read. Especially if you live/fish in the Great Lakes region, you’re going to feel like this was written just for you. 👍

実に新しいスモールマウスバスの教則本。最新情報がわかって楽しいです。スモールマウスバスのフライの教則本は多いですが、ルアーの教則本は少ないので貴重な本だと思います。
