Keats is a Pleasant Read
Keats is one of the more readable poets of the nineteenth century in my estimation. You don't have to break out the dictionary to understand Keats most of the time. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. I've been working on reading Emily Dickinson's entire collection for a long time now, and I have to look up words in almost every poem. Anyway this book wasn't like that. The main poem featured in this book is called The Eve of St. Agnes, a rather long narrative poem about two young lovers named Porphyro and Madeline. The story is reminiscent of Shakespeare, both Hamlet and of course, Romeo and Juliet, the latter in part because the young lovers are from warring families. It's a pleasant read.
