Understanding PULL STRENGTH & PARALLEL HOLD is key when choosing a magnet.
This is the 2nd set of these particular magnetic hooks I've bought (from a different seller). They're versatile, strong for their small size (1/2" diameter), and easily hold up lightweight curtains and rods on metals doors. BELOW is a copy/paste of my first review to address some bad reviews when the hooks didn't do what was expected. Simply put, a magnet's PULL STRENGTH measures (in kilograms or pounds) the amount of VERTICAL force required to PULL the magnet AWAY from the metal surface it is stuck to. Applying that to these magnetic hooks means that each one, when stuck to a metal CEILING, is rated for a maximum holding power of approximately 22 lbs/10 kg before it will PULL AWAY from the CEILING. (Assuming all other factors are ideal.) Take the same magnetic hook and put it on a WALL made of exactly the same material as the ceiling, and it will SLIDE DOWN the wall much easier than it will PULL AWAY from the ceiling. This is the magnet's PARALLEL HOLD or SHEAR FORCE, and it's not nearly as powerful as its PULL STRENGTH. This same concept explains why 2 magnets stuck together are easier to separate if you SLIDE them apart than if you try to PULL them apart. Manufacturers are generally referring to PULL STRENGTH when stating the holding power of a magnet. Pull Strength is determined by the MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF WEIGHT a magnet held WHEN TESTED UNDER IDEAL CONDITIONS. PARALLEL HOLD/SHEAR FORCE can be reasonably estimated at 10% to 25% of a magnet's PULL STRENGTH. With that in mind, we'll assume a PARALLEL HOLD of 15% for these magnetic hooks rated at 22 lbs (22lbs X 15% = 3.3 lbs). Under that assumption, we can expect that each hook (if used on a metal WALL or DOOR) will hold approximately 3 to 3 1/2 lbs of weight before it SLIDES DOWN THE WALL. Obviously, that's much less than the 22 lbs it should hold if it's used on a ceiling. Because a magnet fails under less weight when used on a wall than if used on a ceiling does not mean the magnet is flawed, it is simply demonstrating, in real life, (and perhaps to the user's dismay), the difference between a magnet's PULL STRENGTH (22 lbs in this case) vs its PARALLEL HOLD/Shear Force (approximately 2 1/4 to 5 1/2 lbs or 10 to 25% of 22 lbs). In addition to orientation, there are others factors or conditions that influence a magnet's performance and weaken its strength, such as: **The magnet's material (alloy, ceramic, etal) and its condition (chipped, cracked, scratched, etc?), its size & shape. Is the magnet "cupped" or not? (Cupped=placed into a steel cup or holder, like the magnets on these hooks. Cupping focuses the magnet's pull in one direction {the open end of the cup} giving it increased holding power.) Has the magnet been stored correctly (it matters), Has it been dropped? (dropping magnet=not good) **What about the metal surface the magnet attaches to? How THICK is the metal? (thicker=better), What TYPE of metal is it, what are its components? Is the metal BARE and CLEAN or is it coated, painted, dirty, greasy, rusty? Is the surface of the metal perfectly FLAT or is it curved or uneven, is it perfectly SMOOTH or is it textured, rough, bumpy, dented, chipped? ANYTHING THAT INTERFERES WITH 100% FULL & DIRECT CONTACT BETWEEN MAGNET AND METAL diminishes the magnet's power/strength. **What are the surrounding conditions - is there moisture present? What is the ambient temperature and humidity level? What is the temperature of the surface, of the magnet? **and much more.......... I think the physics of magnets and magnetism is fascinating, but technical and complicated enough to blow MY mind right out of the science book! Fortunately, for most of us 'average consumers', this BASIC understanding of PULL STRENGTH as it relates to PARALLEL HOLD is likely the most beneficial (and easiest to remember) when choosing a household, craft, hobby or shop magnet for our particular task.

If You Cruise, You Need These! Excellent Magnetic Hooks!
I ordered these based on a recommendation from someone in a group I belong to regarding cruising. And I sure am glad I purchased them! The magnets come nicely packaged with the hooks unattached. You simply screw a hook into a magnet. In one of my photos, I have placed a fifty-cent piece and a quarter for size reference. I purchased these to take on cruises, but they can be used anywhere you want a strong magnet. Basically, all the doors and walls on the cruise ships are magnetic. These magnetic hooks can each hold up to 80 pounds, so they can handle anything you may want to hang on the walls or doors of your cruise ship stateroom. For the first time, we opted for a full suite on our last cruise. Even with the extra closet space, etc., there still wasnโt enough places to hang things like wet raincoats. And, the oversized bathroom still only had two hooks on the door next to the shower. These hooks came in so handy. We used them for hanging hats and jackets, we put them on the other bathroom doors for hanging clothing when showering, and we even hung the itinerary and daily newsletter. They are a little pricey at just over $2 a piece, but they are worth every penny. They come with the hooks detached, so you can just use the magnet if you want to, but they are VERY STRONG, so I encourage you to add the hook. It helps to have the hook to grab on to when you want to move or remove the magnet. They come in a convenient package, and the magnets are on a flat sheet of magnet. We even used the sheet on our cruise (it is holding the newsletter under our itinerary). Upon submitting my review, Amazon asks for the following ratings: Easy to remove โ 4 stars โ These are STRONG magnets. I did have some trouble removing one of them from a bathroom door on our cruise. The others were no significant trouble. Versatility โ 5 stars โ These can be used anywhere you need a magnet, with or without the hook, but I recommend attaching the hook for easier removal. Sturdiness โ 5 stars โ These are a quality product, and the threads of the screws hold up to repeated attaching and removal. These magnets are a good value. I strongly recommend these magnetic hooks for anyone looking for strong magnets that will hold up.

FANTASTIC for a cruise!
Bought these for a cruise based on a Google search of โhelpful cruise tipsโ. They were so handy!! Stuck to the walls perfectly - no issues. Held our toiletries bags and wet clothes and did not slide or fall off. Magnet is very strong. Enough hooks in the package to share with the couple we traveled with and they immediately purchased their own package to have for their next cruise. Iโm excited to see what uses I can find for these now that we are back at home.

Sturdy magnet to hold most items 0- great on fridge or on a cruise to hang a wet suit or towel
These are great strong magnets, I keep them on my fridge and they are strong enough to hold most items. They look nice and we also use them on cruises to hang a bathing suit or item of clothing

Great to keep your cabin organized
These magnets worked great to hang a clothes line on a cruise in the window to get our swimming gear dry before heading home. We also used them in the cabin to hang our hats, umbrellas, and other miscellaneous gear to keep it off the floor and organized. They are small enough to pack and not take up valuable luggage space but large enough to use wherever needed. The never slipped or pulled off the wall when being used. I had to pull them at a 90 degree angle to get them to break the magnetic seal to get them off the wall. It was easier and less chance to scratch the surface they were attached to.

Good grip
Will not hold up 85lbs but very good to have on a cruise since most walls are metal. Used on my Alaska cruise to hang jackets and sweatshirts. Pretty good magnetic power for most items. Strong enough to hold a dslr camera with zoom lens.

Very good value, strong enough for most needs
Stronger than I thought they would be, for these small base magnetic hooks. Impressive, for a magnet as wide as my pinky finger - see pics. I grabbed a few kitchen items that could hang on the hook to illustrate the strength. A small ceramic cup... Easy. Added a whisk and a metal spatula... No problem. Full size ceramic coffee cup - carefully... But no worries. I had to give it some good tugs to pull it off. Really, it slid before it actually pulled free. I doubt it will hold the listed weight in the description, except for maybe in the one direction that is optimal for strength... But it is WAY strong enough for my purposes. Note that I needed 20, so this 18-pack is ideal. Or it was, before the wife saw them and stole a dozen for the front of the fridge. Pictures and holiday cards were always falling off with the pathetic fridge magnets she had been using. With these monsters, our well wishes and other "fridge art" remains firmly on the fridge door and side. So I'm ordering another 28 to finish my project. I have no doubt that the rest will find uses around the house. A few have posted that you have to be careful screwing the hooks to the base or the magnet can crack. That's true, and I wish the manufacturer would have corrected the issue... But I have to say, it doesn't affect how the magnet works. Cracked or not, they hold the same weight. Lastly, the magnet is not glued or fastened in the base - it's kept in by pure magnetic power. So if two get stuck together, you have to slide them sideways to keep from pulling one or the other out of the base. But if that happens it's trivially easy to fix... UNLESS it is cracked. So... Slide sideways and all is well.

Great for cruising!
These are great to pop up on the wall when on a cruise. Just remember to get the stronger ones if you want to hang up clothing or towels etc., as the smaller version will only old lanyards and hats etc.. If you hang something too heavy, it will just slide down the wall lol
