Meh. It's okay for some uses, I guess
The good: Sound quality on playback is really good. Better than expected. That also suggests that the mic is very good as well. The size was a big draw for me because the lack of bulk makes it easy to throw in a book bag or purse. It has a clip on the side so it's really nice to be able to, for instance in my case, clip it to the side of my bag and just leave it there during recording.The bad: Playback is only available through earbuds. The ones provided are too large for my ears, hurt, and wouldn't stay in. There is no pause button. There's something called A to B playback, which the directions were not too clear on using. For someone who doesn't fully understand that concept and is using it for lectures, the recorder is pretty useless. It's too easy to switch back and forth between the music player, recording, and playback. The buttons are really close together, so unless you pick it up and scrutinize it and make sure you don't accidentally long-press anything, it's hard to control.
