Purchased these to upgrade the lighting in a 50-year-old house with limited overhead lights and much of the lighting via 50-year-old table lamps. 15 minutes after installing them went back and ordered more for the rest of the house! Six of these will easily light 1,000 ft² PROS This bulb runs cool enough to be used upside down in a totally enclosed light globe without creating dangerous heat. After hours of on time the globe and metal base are cool enough to be safe to the touch. The bulb runs even cooler in a traditional upright lamp application. For a bulb with this much light output the size is very good. The neck is long enough to fit into very old lamps without any clearance issues. The bulb is still short enough to fit inside of some very old ceiling fans that typically have clearance issues with brighter lights. CONS The bulb uses a hollow core design which greatly aids in keeping the bulb cool. However the open top design creates a dark circular shadow and a light output when viewed directly head on. The light output color is extremely white which may be somewhat harsh or off-putting in some areas where a more natural daylight color tone may be desired. These bulbs are super white. The lifespan of this bulb is still to be determined. Paid review: No Would purchase again: Yes

I don't know if it's really 400W equivalent, but it's the brightest LED bulb I've used. Just one will light up a decent sized room. Be careful of the measurements, it's too big to fit in smaller lamps. It also gets quite hot, too hot to touch after it's been running for a while. Infrared thermometer shows it's reaching 115C in some spots, even in an open / well-ventilated lamp. The color seems accurate to 3000K. Looks similar to light from a halogen bulb, not too pink or green like some LEDs can get. The color rendering is average though, definitely not as good as the high-CRI bulbs I have. As far as I can tell it doesn't flicker at all. Random thing I noticed, the power factor is quite low. 0.45 according to my meter. So while it dissipates 40W of actual power, it draws an amount of current closer to that of a 90W bulb. To be safe I would only use it in something that is meant to handle at least a 100W incandescent.

Very bright, needed it for my studio. It's slightly brighter than the flourescent bulb it's replacing. It's heavy, so I have to watch how the stand is set up. But the light is great, and reasonably priced.

This is the brightest light bulb I’ve ever seen. It’s easy to install just like any other light bulb that you twist in. It’s lasted for a longtime and hope it lasts a long time more, if it doesn’t- I’ll update my review. But like unlike bright flashlights this lightbulb has lasted a very long time and lights up my whole backyard.

The lighting is awesome. It covers a large area. The problem I have I searched for outdoor lightning and this bulb is thr first one on Amazon that popped up. My bad, I didn't read all of the discriptions which states indoor bulb. The saving grace, it can be used outside in a coach light, which is what I need it for, outside coach light. I only turn it on when I take my dog outside. We don't have any lions or Tiger's, but YES, bears, skunks, wolf's, foxes and cougars around. Hopefully this bulb lasts a long time because of the price, expensive.

So far these have been a good investment as they provide a lot of light but only use 40W of electricity. Make sure if you are putting them in the power is off to the light or make sure not to be looking at the bulb as it is very bright.

Bought 2 for my garage and they work marvelously! They are very bright! Look very well made! But for the price they should be.
