Grammar for Writing: Understanding the Mechanics of Grammar and How Language works Paperback – June 29, 2008

This book is wonderful! I have been teaching Advanced Placement Language & Composition for many years and used a variety of texts to teach grammar. This one is so different in its approach because it relies on logic and understanding rather than rule memorization. My students are able to think about how the English language is structured and apply this knowledge to both their writing and their peers' writing. As a result of understanding what's wrong instead of merely relying on a sense that "this doesn't sound right", they feel much more comfortable manipulating language to say exactly what they want to communicate.

I got this book for my 12 year old, and he instantly complained about how little information it contained. Do you know what is a subject and what is a verb in a sentence? Ok, you don't need this book.
