The Six

A thrill ride that will keep you guessing
**No spoilers, I promise.**A nail-biter, for sure. I was hooked from the first page and would have read it in one sitting but responsibilities begrudgingly forced me to put the book down a few times. When the book wasn't in my hands it was in my thoughts, especially the characters. I rooted for Evie and Grey throughout the story, hoping for a happy ending. As for other characters, the writting was so well done that their accents seemed to jump off the pages. I found this to be interesting and fun.The story itself is a definite thrill ride with many twists and turns that kept me guessing. I love when I can't figure out the ending and, although I suspected a few of the "bad guys" correctly, this did not spoil anything. The book felt a bit long, but was not filled with fluff to add word count, it was just more tension and twists, and never once did I feel the need to skim over anything (a positive sign for me).The premise of The Six is quite interesting. Several addicts are offered a chance at recovery, which includes payment for going through the program, as well as having their debts wiped clean. The exclusive invitation stipulates that the participants will have to successfully complete several challenges worth $10,000 each. In addition, the participants cannot tell anyone where they are or why.The rollercoaster ride of the recovery challenges, the facility they're housed in, and not knowing who to trust turns this into a very good psychological thriller. Many, many times I got lost in the story, turning page after page as quickly as possible so I could discover what happened next.A fantastic read, great storyline, wonderful characters, and a ride that keeps you from ever guessing the surprises that await you at the end. If you enjoy psychological thrillers, this is a must read. Very, very enjoyable book with an ending I never saw coming.Happy reading :)

Great Start; VERY POOR CONTINUATION; OK Finale
This Review was originally intended to be 1 or 2 stars, but jumping to 3/4 of the way thru the book helped immensely to raise this to a whopping 3-stars! (Yeah, I know — don’t get too excited here!)LOTS in the story happened during that leap, that I never read, but trying to pick up the plot was relatively easy, and got me away from all the background crap. So, “The Six” started out quite well, immediately immersing The Reader in an unusual, exciting situation … then, The Author simply drops the ball, and unceremoniously deposits The Reader into boring, boring, boring background material. The Author clearly leapt into the wrong direction, thinking he had a great story — but instead making a terrible mistake.I’ve tried very hard to keep interest in this tale, but after getting thru the first 3rd of the book — and even trying to skip ahead to the more juicy parts — it just is not worth the effort. While I want to know how the beginning turns out — I’m no longer willing to subject myself to the incidental details — so, I’ve quit — and would recommend YOU to not even bother with this book. Quite frankly, I’m awfully glad to be putting this book aside and jumping into something much, much better (I hope!)

The Six---are they the "lucky ones?"
Where do I begin! I begin by saying "be careful what you wish for" and "there is no free lunch." I wish Ms. Taylor would have aged Evie and Gray. She is 24, he is 22, they have 2 pre-school girls, no money, Gray has just lost his job and Evie has enormous gambling debts. For such young parents they sure are not very smart! No wonder Evie falls for a ploy taking her to an island off the coast of Greece to participate in a gaming challenge to win big bucks. If she can last til the end she will be $60,000.00 richer. She, who has no money, abandons her family, flies to this island (does she even have a passport?), meets other guys and girls eager to win money in this secluded monastery run by a coven of monks and "let the games begin." I loved the challenges presented to the participants and I give Ms. Taylor credit for creating such games. I think she lost me when Gray's presence was known to the reader and their youngest child was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis--give me a break! In the drab atmosphere of the monastery with hidden passages, peepholes and dark chambers the challengers and monks clash. With Gray and friend, Constance, on the trail of Evie, the reader knows only darkness is ahead. Oh by the way, destitute Gray even has a passport to travel--good man! I think I started losing interest at page 320 when Evie and friends discover the horror in the cellar. This continued right up to page 427----107 pages of "overkill", with stabbings, shootings, dead bodies and much carnage. I think Ms. Taylor could have shortened this storyline by 100 pages and still got her point across. Good storyline, but too much of it. Could have done without the cystic fibrosis storyline, a naked Sethi climbing backwards through a window sill and all the blood and gore.

Mind blowing cult thriller
Great read. Not for the faint of heart. So many twists and turns it kept me up reading late into the night.

My type of book. Brilliant
Building from the beginning, taking me to a very unexpected end. Enthralled from start to finish. Haven't enjoyed a book as much for a very long time.

Strangely enticing.
First time I read one of Anni Taylor's novels. I found the story to be strange from the beginning to end. I almost stopped reading it but couldn't, I had to finish it even as it got darker.
