I recently purchased the Uzbek Kazan Cast Iron 6L for the purpose of cooking pilaf, and I must say it has exceeded my expectations. This cast iron pot performs exceptionally well when it comes to preparing pilaf. The heat distribution is even, resulting in perfectly cooked rice with a delightful texture. We bought this pot to use for our camping trip. At the campsite we washed pot before using for the first time- water turned completely black from whatever substance pot was manufactured with. After a second thorough wash it began getting dark outside and couldn’t tell. The food we made in it had a terrible (chemical like) taste. Upon returning home continued to try and wash pot clean of whatever substance was on it to no avail- the aroma stayed with it and water never ran clear. We’ve purchased several cast iron pots over the years and know how to clean and use but never had this experience- beware.
