Is this specific to vinyl planks or will this work for tongue and groove engineered wood flooring?

As a licensed floor covering installer of 51 years I can say it works GREAT for tongue and groove engineered wood flooring! Better than with vinyl plank. I do a lot of both. Some vinyl plank has soft edges an some works ok. Any click wood (Pergo,) or tongue and groove engineered wood flooring it works perfect.
