Hands down the best rap album ever
I’m not a huge fan of what rap has become, but since this albums initial drop, it has been my favorite album in the genre. The beats go hard, and Jeezy got the mad flow. Arguably Jeezy’s best work, and one of the best rap albums of all time.

Another rising rap star with a decent debut
Young Jeezy joins a group of promising rap stars that seem to be ubiquitous in 2005. That group includes brilliant debuts from The Game and Slim Thug. Besides that, Young Jeezy adds to a group of well rounded rap albums in 2005 including THE DOCUMENTARY (The Game), BE (Common), THE COOKBOOK (Missy Elliott), ALREADY PLATINUM (Slim Thug), just to mention a few. 2005 will mostlikely also see promising albums from Tony Yayo (who has a hit with "So Seductive") as well as Paul Wall (whose "Sittin' Sideways" is picking up steam). With that said, Young Jeezy debut is good enough to join that elite group. The major flaws of LETS GET IT: THUG MOTIVATION 101 is that it grows to long and you can instantly fill Jeezy lose some momentum once it gets towards the end of the album where there is more filler material than substance. Had this album been in between the 45-60 minute range it would've been stronger than what it already is. The beginning of the album, however, is very consistent and almost every track is enjoyable, something that even veterans in the music business sometimes have trouble doing. Also, Jeezy has a unique sound to his voice, making him unique to other MCs (Similar to different sounding voices of Slim Thug and even Mike Jones). Jeezy definitely has more good things working for him than bad things against him. Here is a run down of the tracks:1. Thug Motivation 101- 4/5; Nice arrangement, nice beat2. Standing Ovation- 4.5/5; nice beat (drum programming), nice production3. Gangsta Music- 4/5; nice production, nice hook (the album is very hooky overall which is a positive thing)4. Let's Get It/ Sky's the Limit- 4/5; another solid track production/rap wise5. And Then What feat. Mannie Fresh- 4.5/5; personally, one of my favorite tracks of the entire album. I love the "boom boom clap" part of the arrangement as well as Mannie Fresh's ambitious, unique drum programming.6. Go Crazy- 4.5/5; nice sampling, slightly more "commercial" than some of Jeezy's other raps, nice and "hooky", another solid track.7. Last of a Dying Breed- 3/5; the first merely average track in my opinion in the album, good for the first 7 songs of the album.8. My Hood- 4.5/5; one of the first tracks to be in a major key instead of a minor key. The synthesizer line gets stuck in your head. This song also has a pop-rapish hook.9. Bottom of The Map- 3/5; good production, merely average track.10. Get Ya Mind Right- 3/5; I like the organ in the production, yet this is one of the weeaker tracks on the album.11. Trap Star- 4.5/5; exciting production w/ brass synth, catchy hook:" I'm a T-R-A-P S-T-ar". A solid track.12. Bang- 4/5; solid raps from Jeezy, T. I., nice production, and a nice catchy hook makes this another solid track.13. Don't Get Caught- 3.5/5; creative production, average track.14. Soul Survivor feat. Akon- 3/5; Akon provides nice vocals, but the track is a bit too long and bit boring.15. Trap or Die- 2.5/5; filler material.16. Tear It Up- 2.5/5; I've never been a fan of Lloyd and I don't really care for his vocal contribution here; it is obvious this is track 16 on the album and not track 1 or 2. The positive aspect of this track is the production is mellower, which contrasts the majority of the production on the album as a whole.17. That's How Ya Feel- 3/518. Talk To Em- 3.5/5; A nice refreshment to a fading album with the sampled harmonized vocals and the unique vocal arrangement; had this been the conclusion of the album, it would've ended on a rather nice note.19. Air Forces- 2.5; this track could've been cut.Despite minor low points, Young Jeezy I think could possibly stand the test of time in the music industry. He is different and creative and has some 1st rate producers on his side. This isn't the best debut of the year for me, but it is definitely a worthy one. 3.5 stars out of 5. Good job Young Jeezy!
