Although these were cheap they are of a low quality compared to others I have bought , they aren’t insulated or covered with a protection so you have to be very careful with installation. Stick quite well though

Arrived on time but I haven’t used it yet as product spec stated 50w and packaging states 60wI purchased 60w drivers to accommodate 50w LED’s.I’ll get in touch with the supplier before opening the package as it may need to go back.

These lights flicker - regardless of the transformer. Tried 4 different transformers - different specs - nothing could keep the light from constantly flickering. Returned both lights.

I purchased 5m at spec of 15w/m for a bright kitchen specification. Hence 75w total.Package arrived stating 50w hence 10w/m.I have since tested and it is only drawing 33w so under half of the specification.Only purchase if you have no particular brightness in mind for an application.

No plug with it

This is much like any other LED strips you can buy, but it's got a much higher density of LED's than you normally see. This is great if it's on show and far enough away as to not really see each individual point of light. If it's going to be out of direct sight (such as an uplighter or under cabinets) then you may as well spend less and get one with fewer LED's but of equivalent brightness.Construction is a bit of a mixture of other strips I've used. Some are fully waterproof, being completely covered in a rubbery surface, and some are fully exposed. On this strip only the central LED's are covered in a yellow rubbery material, the surface mount resistors and periodic copper terminals are all exposed. So it's not waterproof at all. It is possible to knock the surface mount resistors off so it really needs to be out of reach. Under cabinet lighting would be the most exposed I'd like this.It's only 14W over 5m so not super bright. It would use just over an amp at 12V so at least the supply will be cheap.For the price I would have expected it to be fully waterproof to protect the resistors and exposed copper terminals. Having a higher wattage output that you could dim would possibly have justified the cost. Rated at 30% decay after 3500 hours means it would be visibly darker if left on all day after six months, or just over a year and a half if used for only 8 hours a day. That's ridiculous for a low wattage LED. Unless I'm reading their specs wrong. A lifespan of 25000 hours gives 3 years continuous use, which isn't that great either.

This is not a plug and play set. A power supply (LED driver) has to be added and wired to the mains. If required, a dimmer switch needs to be bought and wired into the circuit, so some electrical DIY is required after procuring the additional items needed.Once wired up, these are VERY bright LEDs. The specification on the pack states 3000K, RA80,10W/M. My understanding of that is that 3000K is the colour appearance of warm white, RA80 is the unit of measure on the Colour Rendering Index (CRI), which is a quantitative measure of a light's ability to reproduce the colors of objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or natural light source - RA80 is considered good., 10W/M is the LED output and I take that to mean every meter of the strip is roughly equivalent to a 60W incandescent bulb and therefore the 5 meter strip will have an output equal to about 5 x 60W incandescent bulbs. That's bright!The technical details in the product information on input wattage is less clear. My understanding is that there is a maximum input of 14W/M, giving a maximum input over the 5 meter strip of 70W. That is a lot for an LED strip and since it does not come with an LED driver (transformer), a 12V, 6A (12V x 6A = 72W) LED driver is required. If you cut the strip up into pieces, the LED driver for each piece will be proportional to 14W/M.I used a 12V, 2A driver for the 5 meter strip to see how bright that was. It was brighter than any LED strip I had seen before, so I am sticking with my 12V, 2A driver.The strip is dimmable, so using a lower power LED driver is the equivalent to having dimmed the strip to that permanent level. If full range dimming is required, a DALI or SCR dimmer can be used.These lights are the fairly recent FCOB (flexible chip on board) technology and are basically multiple LED chips (this set has 504 LED chips per meter) bonded directly to a substrate by the manufacturer to form a single module. COB LEDs have a number of advantages over older LED technologies, such as Surface Mounted Device ("SMD") LEDs or Dual In-line Package ("DIP") LEDs. COB technology allows for a much higher packing density of the LEDs and is bright enough for use in industrial settings. Although I am impressed with the technology and output of this strip, and I can understand that there is no power supply because the strip can be cut into different components all requiring different LED drivers, it is an expensive item that requires further items and some electrical DIY activity to get up and running. So for me, value for money is only 3 stars. I have given the overall rating as 4 stars based solely on the technology and performance, with no deductions for the hassle in getting it up and running.
