Can anyone verify that the kaboom tablets are actually bromine? Someone posted that you could substitute hot tub bromine tablets and it costs less.

Generic bromine tablets are not perfect substitute. Generic tablets are 95% bromine. The Kaboom tablets are about 1/2 bromine and 1/2 chlorinating chemicals, according to SDS. The bromine tablets sort of work, but don't keep it as clean as the tablets that were included with the original kit.

Is this product septic safe?

The manufacturer claims it is septic safe right on the box. Our septic service says it is safe since the amount of chlorine/bromine that toilet tablets introduce into a septic cistern is minimal (toilet water is typically 10%-15% of the water put into a cistern, so it is strongly diluted). Finally, I have seen a scientific paper where they actually tested the effect that typical toilet tablets have on the bacteria in septic systems (chlorine type, bromine should be similar since it has a similar biological mechanism), and it was found that there was no discernible difference from the "control" systems (getting the exact same sewage).

does this product damage tank seals? is it toilet bowl safe?

It bypass the tank water an goes directly into the bowl water. We have used it consistently for years with no bowl safety issues. Our toilet is always clean and never needs scrubbing.
