Great Detector.
Arrived just as described. Wonderful shipping speed. I bought this for my dad as an upgrade from the Ace 400 (I also own an AT Max). Great machine that’s really fun to use!

Exceptional detector! Get it and start hunting!
It’s pretty straight forward to use. Recommend the many You-Tube how to videos for quick use. Good Hunting!

Broke before the first use
The media could not be loaded. So disappointed. One screw was sheared off when it arrived. All it did was squak at everything until it started croaking and then the other screw sheared and the computer fell off. I swung it for under 5 minutes and I’m not rough on my machines. I see others have had this problem on YouTube. This was really shocking to me how poorly made this unit was considering the name and the price. I’m switching to Mine Lab.

There's a lot of youtube reviews that do the unit justice, so I'll keep this short. Like a lot of guys, I upgraded from the AT Pro. Simply put, the Max works great on land and fresh water. The wireless headphones are a big improvement over the AT Pro. The upgraded grip is nice, but I didn't mind the foam grip on the Pro. Sensitivity is definitely improved, you'll find more goodies in hunted out areas. The metal disc is great and is easy to tell most metal junk like nails, and even most metal bottle caps from a coin. FINALLY, an all metal mode, this is where the Max really shines. If you're upgrading from the Pro, keep in mind the Max has only Pro tones. That's a good thing for a serious detectorist, but maybe not for a noob. My one gripe? Like most others, I could not get it to work in salt water or wet salt water sand. Single freq VLF detectors like the Garrett AT series just don't work well in salt water like pulse and multi-frequency detectors do.

Another great product from Garrett
Another great product from Garrett. Love the cordless zlink no more fighting the cord or taking headphones off every time I dig. Seems to go much deeper than my Ace 300 and not as much junk.

I expected more :(
Having had an AT Pro the last 3 years, I was super excited about the new features of the AT Max - particularly the additional depth in the All Metal Mode. What has quickly become apparent, however, is that All Metal is essentially useless (for me) in all but the least trashy locales. As the name implies, it picks up all metal, including foil, can slaw, rusty iron, bottle tops. To be expected when there is no discrimination. The challenge with that is you really can't tell what's what in this mode. The tone is the same for everything, and the VDI #'s are very misleading/unreliable - particularly the deeper the object. There's always a learning curve with every new machine, but I've used it for a couple months now and I've already dug more trash with it than I did most of last year with the Pro.Without All Metal Mode, you basically have an AT Pro - or a hybrid of the Pro and the AT Gold - with a few new whizzbangs. Backlight, volume control, wireless headphone. All very nice features. But they could have just as easily added that to the Pro or Gold and called it done. What I like about it:- backlight- wireless headphones- volume controlWhat I don't like about it:- lack of tone differentiation in All Metal Mode- runs no deeper than my AT Pro in every mode other than All Metal- goes through batteries faster - likely due to the backlight feature, and possibly the wireless- tones are different than with the Pro. With the Pro, I can usually tell what something is, based on the sound and the VDI. I'm expecting this will get better with more time on the machine.Overall, if a person has never owned an AT Pro or AT gold before, they will likely love the Max - as I did/do the AT Pro. The AT series are fantastic machines. I just expected more of a difference between the Max and the Pro.
