The Bach Cello Suite No. 1 Study Book

huge
Bought it for a student who is learning the cello suites. There is way more exercises than you would ever get to while learning the suites, and I would argue some are harder than the actual suite, it would be nice if there was some easier exercises to get into it, but it's nice to add variety in practice.

Easy to use
Pros:-Earlier pages provide bowing ideas and such which helps-The full pieces are displayed within 2 pages to allow the player / performer a peace of mind knowing that they would not need to turn any pages per piece-Notes seem to be accurateCons:-NAOverall:-Highly recommended for practicing. Even great if you dont have one in general

Step by step
I am a beginner learner, who just finished Sujuki 1. I had to difficulty to learn bow movement and scales with just plain notes. With this book i could learn bow movement n scales with music i knew. Yes this book will get harder n harder as i move one but i think this is a great book.

An amazing practice guide!
I am a cello teacher and I *love* this book. I use it anytime (1) a student comes in begging to play the Bach suites and they are close to ready, or are mostly ready but have a weaker skill that will need extra support, (2) an adult student who is significantly below the usual Bach suites playing level but has a high level of proficiency on another instrument or voice, strong audiation skills, and/or a good practice routine, as well as (3) for any student that does not yet understand how to break tricky spots down for effective practice but has the technical ability to play them, because this is essentially a tutorial in how to practice.

Love the exercises!
I wanted to learn the prelude to the Bach cello suites, but on its own, it's daunting! These exercises develop and build the necessary skills. The book is a LOT longer (more pages) than I was expecting, which means that a cellist has a LOT of support to develop skills and learn each movement. I am an adult, have taken lessons for 4 years, and am by no means a "talented" or "gifted" musician. I have to put in a lot of work to progress. I love the structure of this book and hope I can find something similar for my next big cello project... though this will likely keep my occupied for years! :)

Another Great one from the Harvey Co
This series of cello books, whatever era and holiday they are for, is absolutely terrific!!! Everything is clearly explained for the student and teacher. Fingerings are part of the lesson as well. I love the holiday series. This Bach book is perfect for the student who wants to get "better" at playing the Suite. Visually, we enjoy the larger, darker notes. Check it out!!! Priced well and they hold up. Thank you sooo much!!

Excellent general training guide as well as Bach's Cello Suite
I started playing cello as an adult and have had only one lesson so far. I have always been frustrated by the lesson books with short exercises that make no practical sense. This is broken down into specific training exercises that support every few bars of music. Love the cross-string, agility and position training. Much more practical and useful than the exercises in the traditional student books, such as EEI, for ex, not just for playing the specific piece. So glad I got this. If I ever finish it, I will def get another!

The Bach Cello Suite No. 1 Study Book ... Cassia Harvey
Ms Harvey isolates the many problems the first Bach Cello Suite offers, measure by measure, movement by movement. She has created effective etudes to treat these problems. She then helps the student put these elements back together. If the student will do the exercises faithfully, and, using a recorder, listen to your playing critically and _kindly_ (I can't emphasize "kindly" enough), then the Bach Cello Suite 1 can be within the grasp of an intermediate-to-advanced student within a reasonable time. Yet a teacher is needed for all but the most motivated, most musical student.

Providing a Solid Foundation.
I've only worked through the first few sections in this book but I can see how well though out it has been, providing bite-sized technical exercises that take you through each movement a few bars at a time. Cassia Harvey seems to have the knack of homing in on the essentials of cello technique, leaving the player (after considerable work) with the means to focus on their interpretation rather than worrying about the notes.
