Girls Get Curves: Geometry Takes Shape (McKellar Math)

Congruence and Influence
Not much else to say except maybe to reiterate what other reviewers have pointed out.Though Ms. McKellar's EXCELLENT efforts are primarily aimed at the female grade/high school population, there's no reason that adults and males can't also take advantage of her elaborate and pleasantly witty instructions, and this is true with all her books so far. Ms. McKellar's work causes anyone to wonder how they ever learned (any type of) Math from any dry, formalized, didactic school textbook. They constitute a virtually COMPLETE academic Math course together, in themselves, sprinkled with humor as an incentive not found in conventional texts (example: "Congruence symbol resembles a funny mustache"). I would've also given the others 5 Amazon Starz if I had written separate reviews, but it's all been said by her grateful readership.Several people at my University (students and faculty alike) have mentioned benefiting from her various lessons. This opus on Geometry's Lines, Angles, and Rhymes takes her and us beyond the Algebraic stage and closer to, as at least one other viewer has mentioned, making sense out of Trig and (shiver) Calculus. Maybe now in the future she could even also venture into the organic ozone of Computer Math and Number Theory, Combinatorics and Probability, or even Recreational Math, sweetened with her trademark humor and social advice. If anyone (besides Dr. Math or various RecMath website contributors) could, she certainly would, but of course one thing at a time.Ms. McKellar is to Math instruction as Led Zeppelin is to Rock.

Purchased for my niece
I purchased 4 of Danica's books for my 12 year old niece. She was having trouble with math, found it boring, and her grades were dropping. I was worried she would be insulted that I got her math books, but she was really pleased. She started the first book the night I gave them to her. Her mom told me that she started reading them as well, and thinks they are brilliant.Danica is able to make math fun! She takes math, and likens it to everyday situations that girls might enjoy. Math is turned into quizzes, problems about shopping, boys, and other things she could relate to. Her mom also said it helps raise her confidence about doing math, and has given her a more positive outlook. We have already seen improvements in her ability to work the problems in her homework, and her grades are back on the rise.

Good for guys, too! :)
Sure, the book is geared towards young women, but I bought this book for my nephew who needed help in geometry. I read the book first because I had heard an interview with the actress/mathematician on the radio. I also read some reviews of her other books. I was really impressed at the explanations, and it even helped me remember my high school math classes. Some of the writing is a tiny bit cheesy at times, but the explanations are amazing, and it was great to read a book about geometry that was able to explain things clearly and succinctly.

Thanks to Danica!
My kids were very frustrate with math for years and those teachers were not very good. I used to love math which was because I had wonderful teachers back then. Now I forgot how to do it and bought all Danica's 4 books. They helped me to refresh my memory of how doing it. I helped my kids and their grades have so much improved now. Some of Danica's tips/tricks are WONDERFUL that I never knew! I hope Danica will make another book for PreCal, Trig and more!

Not what I expected
A friend highly recommended this book. It has a cute easy concept but there weren't any worksheets so that my daughter could practice what they were explaining in the book. If she hadn't started to highlight in it, I would have returned it. Looking for something that has explanation and worksheets to follow.

My Daughter Is Getting An "A"!
My daughter loves this book and is getting an "A" in geometry in her freshman year of high school. More importantly she is inspired by Ms. McKellar and is finding math fun. I will be buying all the rest of the books in the series.

Wish I bought them earlier.
I ordered this for my daughter because she was seriously struggling with her online schools’ 8th grade math course. She really liked the simple explanations given in the book better than the schools harder explanations. Said she really understands the equations now. Igot her the authors other algebra books too. Wish I got these books for her in 7th grade.

my kids love them and said they helped them out very well ...
I wish I had these books a year before when I was taking college math and not touched math in 20 years. my kids love them and said they helped them out very well with understanding these "complex" topics.

These math books are amazing
These books have helped my daughter go from a nervous and struggling math student to an A student who is considering going into engineering. Thank you SO MUCH Ms. McKellar!
