🏰 Rule the Sultanate, Outsmart Your Rivals!
The Five Tribes Whims of the Sultan Expansion elevates your classic worker placement game by adding 5 new cities, increasing player count to 5, and introducing fresh strategic challenges. Designed for ages 13+ and 2-5 players, this 40-80 minute expansion requires the original Five Tribes base game to play.

Have me some tribes
A great addition to a great game. Doesn't complicate the rules at all.

Love this Expansion to Five Tribes
Love this Expansion to Five Tribes! It adds another way of scoring that works well with the collecting that already occurs in the game. It doesn't add any brain-burning to the base game.

Still very good but did not stand up to the amount of our expectations!
OK, let me explain!First of all, still a very solid 2nd major expansion but given the fact that we bought the Artisans of Naqala (the other major expansion) first, we had an extremely high expectation for this product and that is why the 4 stars! The Artisans were so-o good that it is a bit hard to talk about this one without ever comparing it to the other one. With the Artisans, you got six new game board squares, a new tribe and all new magic / precious items. Let's just say that it expanded the game so much that the Days of Wonder had to provide a whole new scoring pad with new line items! This one, on the other hand, did add an extra turn and a bidding track set for a five player game mode, which we are yet to use but still thumbs up there, and it did add 6 more game board squares, which we do like very much, but these turned out to be too small of a change comparing to what else it had to offer. The whole expansion ended up revolving around the so called Whims of the Sultan cards that are placed face up, at random, on the five new Fabulous Cities game board squares. The only way to get one is to land on the square and once you get it, you need to complete a task on the card in order to get a coin reward right after. This by itself does introduce an additional variety to the game play but it falls short of taking it to the next level like the Artisans did... Actually, given the enormous power of the Fabulous Cities themselves, it forces you to pay a very close attention to the ownership of aforementioned game board squares because even though the initial value for each starts out at 5, it gets multiplied by the number of the total Fabulous Cities owned. For example, if I own two, then each one is 10 points or 20 total together; if I own 3, then 15 points each with a 45 total. All the way, to the max of 125 points for all five, which carries an enormous weight if left unchecked! So, in a way, good or bad, it forces you to play Fabulous Cities because it is very hard to overcompensate for that large of a difference with something else. But, maybe, that was the point... There are no new tribes introduced in this one but to complete the game board additional meeples of the other five major tribes are added.THE BOTTOM LINE, we are still glad that we bought this one. It still expands the game play with: 5 people option, more ways to make money and 6 more game board tiles. But, it still falls short to deliver an amazing 2nd major expansion set experience. I would almost suggest for anyone who is a fan of Five Tribes to actually buy this one first and be impressed by it, and, only then buy the Artisans because you get to appreciate them both in a more progressive fashion! Although, said that, whichever way you decide to approach it, you are still guaranteed to have LOTS of fun playing the game on a bigger board!

Adds a really great dimension to Five Tribes!
A really interesting expansion that definitely adds a new dimension to Five Tribes. If you already like the game a lot and are looking for ways to alter your experience, then I would definitely recommend it! If the game is a bit overwhelming for you and you have the other expansion, then you can skip it- it is not "essential" to the game.

Snazzy Palaces, Fifth Player Slot Added
Five Tribes is def one of my fave games and Days of Wonder is super quality and the art/design is top notch! This expansion isn't as interesting as the Artisans (purple meeples) one, but it's really nice that they have added a fifth player slot, the coffee color grew on me. The sultan's "whims" are basically cards that give you coins for doing random stuff during game play, and the palace tiles are worth exponential points for controlling multiples. The only thing I didn't like was that the new scoring pad doesn't fit into the base game inlay, so keep that in mind if you like shoving all the expansions into the base game box. I still haven't tried a 5 player game, but I'm sure it is balanced. Keep the expansions coming!
