Incredible lens
This lens massive exceeded expectation, and it’s fun to use, it’s fully manual so you will be fucins and setting aperture by hand but that’s why it’s only £70, the depth of field is pretty good when your close to and object but for object further away it’s not gonna be as good as something with a larger opening.Pretty good sharpness however I don’t have much to compare it to, great value for money, and if you know how to use it it’s very fun

Hard to complain at the price
.....but as others have noted it's very soft in the corners. Not even just a little bit soft. Very soft.Sharpness in the middle is very good and out to 3/4 frame is good too then it drops away. Vignetting is also present wide open.As a result it has a decided vintage film feel about the image which I personally quite like, especially for street photography. One very annoying feature is the focus ring only moves through about 90 degrees. This makes it incredibly sensitive to small movement and difficult to achieve perfect focus. Finally when focusing to infinity the image starts to go softer. It's definitely a lens that's better in close-up or mid focal ranges up to 30 feet or so.That all said for under £70 it's good enough and ideal for street photography. On an X-E series camera it makes a nice compact unit that's not imposing or intimidating.

An interesting lens at a very interesting price!
Seems solidly built and a indeed alittle heavier than I expected. Fits nicely on my XT1 and XE3. Image quality at f/8 exceeded my expectations with very sharp images across the frame except the extreme corners... nothing usually there anyway! I'll probably use it for landscape/urban shooting where I anyway stop / think/ compose. I really like the colour rendering and contrast. Better to choose white balance when possible I think rather than use auto but not essential. This will be my lens for getting back as close to film photography as possible with a modern digital camera especially with Fuji film simulations.

At this price nothing to complain really
First thing noticeable, compared to expensive fuji lens is the lack of autofocus, but that can be an interesting learning experience. It also does not have the EBC coating (or possibly any coating). Its is however very well made, metal and all the rings move with precision. I really enjoy it.

Returned as not suitable for my needs

Not a day to day lens.
Found this lens a bit different to handle,it's built well but trying to adjust focus for me was tricky to get that sweet spot where your happy to snap away.spent more time trying to re-focus and correct before getting desired shot. A bit small, results ok.

What a little enigma.
Build quality is excellent. This isn't a lightweight bit of junk but feels well made with good quality materials. It is all delived in a small form factor which sits well on the camera, especially for street or travel photography. At f2 you certainly get a shallow depth of field and a pleasing amount of background blur.At f8 (if you focus well) is where this lens comes into its own and produces sharp images..except for the corners. Now although this softening in the corners might be a deal breaker for some it is actually only really noticeable if you pixel peek as I've tried to show in the pictures. Where it might be an issue is if you try to photograph stars at night (single pinpoints of light such as stars) otherwise in my opinion it isn't really an issue on 'everyday' shots. As other reviews have said the distance scale on the lens doesn't seem to correspond to the actual real world distance from an object but that also isn't a deal breaker for me as many 'more expensive' lenses don't either. Just check your focus in the viewfinder or LCD screen before you press 'shoot' as you would with any other manually focused lens.I find the images this lens produces are 'bright' and the colours pleasing.Would I use it for amateur astrophotography, no, not really. That said would I use it for street or travel photography, yes definitely.Don't expect the same quality image as a lens 5 times the price but for the cost, this is a brilliant, solid, well built, small form factor lens that can deliver some lovely images. I would go so far as saying it is like having a vintage lens on your camera with all the associated quirks. I find because it is a quirky, manual focus, prime lens it forces me to think about my photography more, and that is an excellent outcome from an 'economical' lens. Remember at the time of writing the price is less than £70!It isn't to replace my Fuji glass, it's not why I bought such a lens, but it certainly has a place to compliment the lenses I have.In summary, It is quite a fun, inexpensive, unobtrusive lens to have on your camera and I'm really enjoying using this lens to bring an older camera back into use. So, despite its 'quirks' I would recommend it, in fact I might say because of its quirks I'm enjoying using it.Update after a week...This lens is stunning for the price. I have attached some images I took today using this lens on my old Fuji X-A1.I hope the photos speak for themselves.

Vintage design makes this a great budget lens for street photography
This is a great lens with a very similar design to the early 1950’s Canon Serenar 28mm f/3.5 except for the addition of an extra element added at the rear. Like the lens on the Fujifilm X100 series is very close in design to the early 1950’s Nikon W-NIKKOR-C 3.5cm (35mm) f/2.5 lens taking inspiration from vintage designs can create a very good, yet not clinically perfect, lens. I gave it a solid five stars for the balance of price and image quality. Judged solely on image quality it gets four stars. While not as good as the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2 lens (a truly outstanding lens with two aspherical elements, autofocus and weather resistance) this lens has a bit of character; a euphemism for not a perfect image. If you are looking for a 23mm lens that renders an image as close as possible to perfection spend the extra ~$400 on the XF 23mm f/2. You won’t be disappointed. Don’t expect this lens, or any vintage lens be it original or a new build based on old design, to perform at the same level as a new OEM professional grade lens. Using a new lens based on an old design will give you results a modern designed lens with aspherical elements won’t: a vintage character without the all too common flaws caused by many decades of age.The advantages of this lens are its solid metal build, sharp center image quality at f/2 and very sharp center image quality at f/2.8 and higher, sharp almost corner-to-corner image quality at f/5.6, excellent contrast, true manual focus (not focus-by-wire) and an aperture ring delineated with click stops. Its almost pancake size makes it a great lens to carry around everywhere you go; something you want in a wide angle lens with a full frame equivalent of 38mm. Its small size and true manual focus (with proper distance markings) makes it perfect for street photography and also, as I use it, a good lens for vintage-style landscape and travel photography. The downsides are its typical, yet mild, “vintage lens” vignetting seen mostly when opened-up to f/2, something that can be as both a pro and a con and is easily fixed in editing. There’s a minor loss of sharpness around the edges at f/2, which also isn’t uncommon, but is better at f/2.8 and clears up at f/5.6 everywhere but the very most far edges. Like with most vintage glass designs flaring can be an issue when shooting into direct sunlight, again something that can be seen as both a pro and a con, and using a lens hood will help fix this. While not weather resistant since it contains no electronics I have little concern about using it in somewhat wet conditions.Long story short if you’ve been looking for a vintage ~25mm f/2 lens like I’ve been you’ll know they’re not only hard to find and expensive but many times due to age have condition issues like mildew damage which can greatly degrade image quality. Plus using a vintage lens means you’ll also need to buy an adapter ring which increases both the price and size. This lens is sharper than most vintage lenses while still retaining a vintage “vibe”, extremely well built, very small and costs very little. It now stays on my camera much more than any other lens I own. As someone that started my photography journey in the days of film this lens returns me to those simpler times. If you understand and embrace both this lens’ strengths and limitations you can’t go wrong.
