The Atlas of Beauty: Women of the World in 500 Portraits

Photographic artist Michaela Noroc, from Eastern Europe, succeeded in doing a project I dreamed of doing since I was 22 years old (48 years ago). She has gone to over 50 of the 190 some countries in the world, meeting and photographing women from many corners of the world. She is a superb environmental portrait artist and street photographer (I am a Master level portrait photographer with over 50 years of experience so I know excellence when I see it.) What is equally impressive is she took up photography in her adult years, but proved to have enormous natural and developed talent. I have always been a lover of feminine beauty and an admirer of women’s character and accomplishments. This talented and articulate photographic artist celebrates all of those things with both her images and her observations and writings on each portrait. In my opinion, this book is a celebration of all the Women of the world and an important book for everyone who admires Women for whom they are, their struggles, their accomplishments, and the fascinating variation of beauty that is found across the planet. I want each of my four adult daughters and four granddaughters to have their own copy, to inspire them as they lead their lives. No thinking, intelligent, sensitive person can not be moved by this book. It is a photographic tour de force. It will serve as a special gift for a wife, daughter, mother, employee, female employer, or any woman who wants to celebrate all women of the world. As a collector of books on photography and The Art of Portraiture it holds a very special place in my library. My only disappointment is I am not the artist and author. Ms. Noroc is a woman and an artist to be very admired. Brava! Michaela Noroc. May God bless you in your work and your travels.

Excelente libro

Absolutely awesome. I'm an artist and using this to learn different face types, and I can't imagine a better or more thorough reference than this.

A friend of mine showed me breathtaking photographs on the Facebook page called The Atlas of Beauty. When I saw that there was a book of these photos, I checked it out, expecting it to be very expensive. It turns out the price is quite reasonable, so I bought it. Noroc is a multilingual resident of Bucharest, Romania. She spent four years traveling through 50 countries to put together this project. The photos are gorgeously composed and the subjects are diverse. Some of the women are supermodel beautiful; others exemplify inner beauty. Many wear traditional ethnic costumes. The layouts are interesting as well, with satisfying juxtapositions. Some photos are accompanied with a story about the woman pictured; others with just the location. Whether you love looking at attractive women or appreciate excellent portrait photography, you will enjoy this book.

I have not opened this book yet. It is nicely packaged, and I want to keep it that way, until I give it away as a gift. I do not need to open it to know it's value, though . . . I have read the reviews, and seen portions of its contents. I will get a copy for myself someday, but for now, I want to keep this one wrapped so that I can give it away as a very special gift to a very special person. Sorry I can not provide more information, but by leaving this comment I can at least provide 5 stars. Thank you for this work of art, this treasury of culture, this documentary of history.

this book is beautiful. my only wish is that it featured a greater range of body types. but i also recognize this is a photographer's collection. i got this to add to my library of books for my daughters to show the world has many colors and definitions of beauty.

Great book. Contains amazong photos of (as name suggests) beauty around the world with great quality paper and printing.

Ce projet extraordinaire, photographier les femmes du monde entier et montrer que la beauté est partout autour de nous dans leurs sourires et dans leurs yeux, sans artifice, sans maquillage, sans studio, sans modèle stéréotypé jusqu'à la nausée et surtout sans photoshop et ses retouches assassines de la vraie beauté. Quel plus beau projet que celui-là dans nos temps de violences faites aux femmes, quel plus beau projet que d'opposer la beauté rayonnante et simple de toutes ces femmes à la bêtise et l'ignorance des hommes. Le livre est superbe, d'une extrême qualité. Les tirages sont respectueux de toutes les couleurs naturelles. On est à des années lumière des photos de papier glacé distantes et impersonnelles. Vous avez entre les mains plus que des photos, des morceaux de vie vivants et vibrants!
