Pine forest after the rain love it
At first I did t like this product. It smelled like mint to me. But after time either it has grown on me or it has evolved but now I can’t get enough of it. After I bought this, and initially didn’t like it I bought another brand highly recommended of Hinoki pure oil and I hated it. It smells like pine sol. That’s when I returned to Gya and fell in love with it. I like putting it in my hair. It makes me feel like I’m in a fresh pine forest after the rain.

Disappointed..... with myself, too
Disappointed in myself for not noticing the misleading nature of this listing. This is not a true, pure essential oil. Now, as I spend more time looking further down through the listing, I see it DOES say this is Hinoki and jojoba (which I'd never buy, had I noticed that)-- BUT, it also does not list jojoba on the bottle itself. It says Hinoki oil and "fragrance." Fragrance of what? From what? Some random natural fragrance? Something synthetic? Anything that vague almost certainly points to a cheaper source, meaning synthetic. I initially gave this listing 2 stars, because it's my own fault for not reading through every spec and detail on the page to find out what I'm getting. However, I knocked it down to 1 because I believe there is still no transparency in what this actually is, AND the listing says "Hinoki Essential Oil"-- it does NOT say "oil blend" which would have made me pass over the item for sure. And it certainly does not say "Oil blend with added fragrance." So I do believe this listing was intentionally deceitful. As far as product itself, I agree with other users-- it smells like spearmint, like Xtra gum. Mine also smells very faintly like cigarette smoke.

Perfect, lovely scent, but a loose lid
I was expecting this to smell pretty much like atlas cedar, but WOW, there’s so much more to this woody fragrance. It’s sweeter, still plenty woodsy, but there’s a really nice complexity to it that makes people ask what you’re wearing. I had to take one star off because the lid was loose and it leaked a little bit. Tighten the lids, people!

Wonderful, long lasting scent!
Delightful scent and it lasts a long time. Im using a few drops (5 or 6) of the Hinoki essential oil on a car essential oil diffuser that attaches to the AC vent. The scent is very subtle , not over powering and very calming. Scent has lasted 4 weeks and has only slightly gotten fainter.

This is not pure Hinoki, however….
I love the blend. I purchased a large amount of Hinoki elsewhere based on the beautiful aroma of this brand. Based on that purchase, I’ve learned that the real deal is not as enchanting. This Hinoki has been “upgraded” with peppermint and a fragrance that reminds me of baby powder. It is beautiful!!!! But know, this is not pure Hinoki. Do I still recommend it, yes!!!

Cheap perfume-like scent
I was excited to try hinoki oil, but as soon as I smelled this one I admonished myself for not getting a higher quality brand. This smells way too “perfume-y.” Another reviewer mentioned notes of baby powder and I agree, but I very much do not like it. I want to smell FOREST.

“Smell to the nose”
Different smells come from different processing of the parts of the cedar tree which is the basis of hinoki. I thought I could quickly replace the hinoki oil I typically buy and found this one on amazon. So I cannot say that there is anything wrong with this hinoki oil, however depending on what wood of the tree is used, and the processing manner, you get different results. I found this oil to have a sharp component that hit my nostrils when opening the jar and smelling. That is not typical for me… that might be typical for someone else… the product I typically buy has a much smoother and sweeter smell to it on the nose. I was so startled by this sharpness, I actually threw all three bottles away, and didn’t even look to see that I could have probably returned the product. So I am noting my lesson learned.

I've found buying essential oils from unknown brands can be very hit and miss and often outright scams. That said, when I came across this product from a brand that was unknown to me, I took a shot on it for £9... I love the smell of Japanese Hinoki it is a rich slightly sweet and, in my opinion, masculine scent that has a great depth. This product claims to be 100% essential oil and whilst I have no way of testing this, my experience leads me to believe the claim - in which case, its also pretty good value. I bought this for use in a cold ultrasonic diffuser and am so very pleased with the result... its a beautiful scent that fills the room and a little goes a long way... will be trying others from this brand.

I don’t know what was in the bottle, but it wasn’t hinoki. Instead of that pleasant woody smell, reminiscent of bathing in Japan, it smelt almost minty, without even a hint of wood. Don’t risk it.

Refreshing, warm and welcoming, Hinoki essential oil is lesser-known, but it packs a punch. Derived from the Japanese Cypress tree wood, this fresh-scented and cleansing oil has calming properties that make all who use it fall head over heels for its potent aroma. With a long history as one of the ‘five sacred trees of Kiso’, Hinoki trees are treasured in Japan, with its forests being highly valued, managed and protected across generations. The wood of these sacred trees has also been used to build temples, shrines, and baths across Japan, with Hinoki oil holding a special place in the hearts of Japanese citizens dating back to ancient times. A mix between the familiar, woody aroma of evergreen trees and a bright burst of citrus fruits, Hinoki essential oil’s scent brings about feelings of peace and tranquillity, Also, the Hinoki aroma differs depending on which part of the oil is extracted from the wood. Hinoki oil extracted from the branches has a gentle and calm scent that gives you a sense of stability. On the other hand, Hinoki oil extracted from leaves is very refreshing. Since purchasing my oil diffuser, I have been ordering several essential oils, each as precious as the other in terms of well-being and health benefits. I have never heard of Hinoki essential oil, and given its calming effects on the mind, I decided to get it for my bedroom and use it before bedtime. It has a fresh wood scent reminiscent of the scent of the forest. It is a soothing, refreshing, energetic, and gentle scent. It helps me calm and relax and soothes my rushing mind. It is a unique fragrance, one I enjoy very much, woody and citrusy. I was brought up next to a forest and played a lot there. This smell transports me back home with all the smells and sounds of that beloved place. I add three to five oil drops into the diffuser and let it envelop me. I am thrilled with this essential oil’s scent and calming effects.
