Classic American Short Stories (Dover Literature: Short Stories)

Highly recommend this edition. Bought this mainly to be used as a bathroom reader. Needed the large print so I wouldn't have find my glasses every time I want to "think deep thoughts". This has a good balance of authors and topics.

I bought this for the large print, the variety of stories and authors and for my 87 year old dad to be able to read without his reading glasses; plus I can read these stories to him out loud in the assisted living facility. Only negative is that the other residents like to "borrow" this book and it's gone missing a couple of times, but we got it back each time. My dad really enjoyed getting the book as a gift too.

The large print does make these easy to read, and the format works pretty well for a collection of short stories. The stories were roughly in chronological order. I would quibble a bit with the selections; for instance, I think Mark Twain has better stories. The stories were all rather grim, but maybe that's typical for short fiction of years ago.

I bought the book for my mom. She’s having some trouble with her short term memory, so I figured the short stories would be better than the novels she’s used to reading. The book was a great hit with her!! So glad I bought it.

These are just what I needed for my cold legs sitting around the fire. Would order again.

Rating short stories by the master writers seems a bit more than presumptuous of me. So I won't. I'll just point out that if there is something you have not read, buy this and read it. If you've already read all these short stories long ago, then it's time to reread them.
