Great source of information for those want to know the myth behind the dictator Issayas Afewerki
This book is Well researched and highly motivating to read in order to find out what's going on with our beloved country of her Eritrea . Martin went all the way to find out the history and origin of our political problem and independence by visiting the country in person. He deserves all the credits to be able to tell the story. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to know anything about our country's misfortune. Thank you Mr. Plaut! I can't wait to see this book translated in our native languages , Tigrigna and Arabic so every Eritrean can read it.

An informative overview, and, description of Eritrea.
The author provides a comprehensive history of this reclusive country. The people are beautiful, and, brilliant. It’s unfortunate that there is an overwhelmingly repressive government in power. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a good understanding of this country, and, dictator.

A book that plots the convergence point of complexity and simplicity in understanding Eritrea. I couldn't stop reading after the pre-ordered copy was delivered to my address. I found it to be a book that presents the making of Eritrea concisely in a very simplified format.

Worthless mouthpiece
Worthless opinion piece from someone who hasn’t even been to Eritrea.

One of the best books to read to understand Eritrea
As an Eritrean forced to apply asylum in western countries, it is difficult to find even intellectuals the complex events in Eritrea. It looks like most of the people are in one or the other camp for or against the government. I find this book extremely helpful as it follows the complicated path of a people's beloved guerrilla to a brutal dictatorship. Highly recommended to read to anyone who want to have a grasp of Eritrean politics.

Biased Author
The author is biased, he’s been working for years now, to overthrow the government of Eritrea. Who ever read the book “ the economic hitman”... well he is basically the hitman, the only difference is, he is open about it and uses mainstream media to do it. Shame on him for not being fair to a country, who is trying to get up on their own feet.
