Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker (Widescreen Edition)

I watched it before letting my grandsons. Well done. Language and content were appropriate. I'm a big fan of Anthony Horowitz. He tells a good story. Movie was hilarious and fun

My son is a big fan of the Alex Rider series and looked forward to the movie, but it never came near us and took forever to come out on DVD. We assumed it must be terrible, but it is very good. The action is great and although it is not exactly like the book, the changes are OK. So what's wrong with it?--Some of the characters are too cartoonish, but Alex is great and Bill Nighy's version of Alan Blunt is brilliant. I had not pictured Mrs. Jones as a stylish Condi Rice but it works. Unfortunately there are so many split second film edits that it makes your eyes hurt. The girl fight scene is dumb and pointless, although the flash of the Avengers on TV during the fight was fun -- should have been Mrs. Peel instead of Steed. I enjoyed this movie far more than the grim Casino Royale. Alex Rider fans should not stay away; this is worth seeing.

I really think it's too bad that this movie has not done better than it has in American theaters. It has everything that a good James Bond movie has without the over-the-top negatives. When there is violence, it's measured and makes a needed point; when there is sex, it's restrained and laced with Britannic humor. (The sexiest part of the movie is the cover jacket; "the girlfriend" in reality is nowhere near that developed or sultry.) Above all, despite its ultimately very serious theme (one that I hope won't give any terrorists out there any ideas), it's fun and doesn't take itself too seriously.Alex Pettyfer (who plays Alex Rider) was hand-picked for this role (which pulls on a great many British archetypes, from Christopher Robin -- considering his appearance -- to James Bond), and he really shines in it. He has a presence that easily stands up to everyone else's in the film, and his use of martial arts and other physical techniques is dazzling. In my opinion, there's not an actor in this film who isn't good to outstanding, even if some of the major roles might be a wee bit too eccentric for American tastes. There's plenty of hat-tipping to the Bond films and other British institutions, and to Japanese and Chinese cultures as well.

I originally bought book 2 in this series for my 12 year old. I read it first to verify appropriateness and got hooked myself. We couldn't find the first book in print and so bought the movie. We all loved it. I understand it does vary from the book. You get what you expect from one of these movies, fun, fast action, a bit of unbelievability. No it's not fine art but that not what we bought it for.The books and movie do not shy away from death and destruction. The bad guys get what's coming to them but without any gory details. Those who are against any gun violence will want to stay away.

The movie is quite different to the book. I had the kids read the book first so they could compare and contrast. It’s a fun movie but honestly, the book was better.

My son loves the Alex Rider books. This movie was an added bonus that allowed him to share his excitement for the books with the rest of the family.The movie itself was fast paced and fun. The action was fun, but not too much for younger children. I think most kids would enjoy it, even if they haven't read the books. It was fun for the adults too.

Not a very good movie. My 2 kids (9 and 10) and I loved the book so we decided to get the DVD. What a mistake. The boy just could not watch it and left the room. The little girl forced herself to watch the entire thing and at the end said "That was terrible." My sentiments exactly.

This is not a review of the movie---haven't even received it yet! This is an older movie but pre/early teens are into the books and now want the movie. This is not serviced by Amazon and is coming from overseas! Either I didn't read the info carefully or the info wasn't clear but, after I placed the order I received notification that it would be delivered sometime late January. I tried to expedite it and that was when I found out why it would take so long. Tried to cancel but suddenly it was already shipped---all this taking place within less than 24 hours! Since i did not want to disappoint my grandaughter, I found it on Movies Unlimited--in time for Christmas. Suggest you do the same.

I love the Alex Rider books and just had to have this film in my DVD collection (shame they haven't made more films from the books!!

Not only is this a great movie but I received it way sooner than I was expecting and it was in perfect brand new condition! Very very very happy with it :)
