powerful, portable and good value
I really like the light weight and portable design of this light for it's large size. This light is easier to transport than my bigger lights, yet it puts out an incredible amount of light. The flat design makes it easy to position in tight spaces, or as an overhead light with low ceilings. Even though it is bi-color, the output level is bright enough to use as an interview key light. However, I highly recommend the optional softbox, or some kind of diffusion, to reduce the multiple shadows created by the rows of LEDs.Build quality is fine for this price level. The case is not very robust, but will work OK for transporting this product. As will ALL cases, it just just barely large enough to fit the product it was designed for. Why do comapnies make cases too small for accessories and such a tight fit?The head power cable feels a bit light weight, and could be longer. I ordered an extension cable, to make it easier when placing the light overhead, and being able to reach the ballast controls. One thing that is odd is that when the ballast is hung on it's support cable, the AC cable extends from the TOP of the ballast, while the head cable extends from the BOTTOM. Either the support cable was installed on the wrong end on my ballast, or they just didn't think about how the cables would be oriented when the ballast is hung. It's a minor thing, but still a poor design choice. Regardless, I like this product enough to give it 5 stars.UPDATE: I recently purchased one of the extension cables (for between the controller and the light), which mitigates the lack of remote control. I also received the softbox with grid option, and highly recommend it. The supplied diffusion lantern style dome certainly does a good job of diffusing the LEDs, but if you want to control light spill, the softbox and grid are the way to go. This is a really wonderful light, and I'm glad to have added it to my lighting kit.

Good bright light in an affordable package.
Let me start by saying I had somewhat low expectations for this light. I own a set of Litemats, by Litegear and those are excellent lights, but cost $2500 a pop. When a friend showed me Falcon Eyes lights, first I chuckled, then I doubted, then... I ordered. This little thing produces a lot of light, and it's nice looking light! I ran some tests, and it produces a high CRI as well.I also left it powered solely by my 190WH V-Mount battery and it stayed lit for over 3 hours, which would make it great for car interior work or other jobs where AC is not available.Accesories: I recommend getting the extension cable, I bought the 6 Meter one. Also, get the soft box as well.Bottom line, do I think these lights are extremely well built?..umm..not sure. Kinda? BUT, do I think they are an awesome deal for $300? HECK YEAH! Just buy one!

There is no support if your fixture breaks
I really like the Falcon Eyes 18TDX. It's amazingly flexible both physically (you can bend it around anything), and logistically (it's light weight, and I've gaff taped it to any number of surfaces, like walls and ceilings). With the frame attached it's very easy for somebody to hand hold ("hollywood") the light. However, I cannot recommend it's purchase. I experienced a problem with mine recently and have attempted to find someplace to contact to get it fixed. However, there is no connection to any support on their web site as it's a European only distributor.I'm really sad as it's a great light at a great price. In the future I'll purchase from a competitor that actually provides support after purchase.

Great value despite color/tint!
I highly recommend the RX-18TD. The bi-color is wonderful and the output reasonable. You'll definitely have the amount of light needed for a T-stop ranging from 4-8 at ISOs of 200-800 with the light at 1m. Be aware that there are several packaged models available. Some with a flattish rectangular bag others with a long styled bag (similar to a tripod bag). Also, some models come with the accessories (diffusion/lantern) while others do not. I recommend the diffusion versions. Additionally, some are shipped with an X-bracket that folds in halves, so smaller for storage -- while others have an X-bracket that only folds at the cross point so it's longer when stowed. I think they're both great just something to be aware of. As for the color, there are some interesting observations to be made. Like many LEDs (even more expensive ones), the color temperature on the controller is not an accurate representation of the color output from the light. You will need to experiment and make reference notes. For instance, my unit set to 5600 actually puts out 5400. When set to 5550, it jumps to 4900. These are numbers with the diffusion off. It's a large decrease in color temperature as soon as the tungsten balanced LEDs are engaged (at 5550). Additionally, where tint is concerned, the light is very clean at 5600 but as soon as you dial in more warmth, a magenta tint becomes apparent. At approximately 5200 and below, you are likely looking to add 1/8 plus green gel if you're concerned about the correcting the tint. I honestly find that pretty reasonable considering the cost of the light. I see this same trend in pro level lights as well. In summary, this is a great light best used as a key or fill at close range. It's ultra-light and can be rigged on a lightweight stand and even boomed with minimal gear. I'm super picky and for my kit, this will most likely be used as fill while deploying a pro-level, more robust source for the key. Either way, this is a great buy and can easily get the job done. I'd recommend two RX-18TDs over one RX-24TD for the flexibility that would offer. Happy shooting!
