A great book
A must have for every ELO fan. Very informative and well written . Being a fan of ELO and the great Jeff Lynne for the past 45 years, there's still a lot I've learned from this book. You can feel the love of the author to the band. It's much better than the other book ( Electric Light Orchestra: Song by Song / John Van Der Kiste ). I wish there were more books like this one about Jeff lynne and ELO.

Good resource for Jet Flynn fans but
This is a book full of good information about the Electric Light Orchestra but I was somewhat annoyed by the authors opinions. I don’t believe his opinion is a good one or is it necessary to criticize any song written by Mr Lynne !!!!!! Any single one ( period )

It's a real submarine!
I have several On Track books and they are all very good. Buying them as a fan of the bands, I expect to find great enthusiasm for the music, underlining my own appreciation, and a great deal of interesting information about the recordings, history and background. So far they have all done that. I can see where people might also buy the books to learn about the bands or artistes and expand their collection with suggestions they read about. So the books work on several levels. This Electric Light Orchestra On Track book goes above and beyond my expectations, the author has really put together an outstanding treasure trove of information, and the research involved really makes it a brilliant read. As an avid ELO fan. I learned a great deal above what I already knew, and I considered that I knew as much as a fan could! It is written with great humour and passion and intelligence, highlighting just everything relevant. There are laugh out loud moments at some of the gems brought out from the history of the band.My ELO period is firmly the mid-70s, Face The Music has been my favourite album by anyone (and I love an awful lot of varied music) since release, and I would place Eldorado a close second. Prior to that there was brilliance on the first 3 albums, and subsequent albums also had brilliant touches. It goes without saying Jeff Lynne was / is a genius songwriter and I fully understand how he shifted his style to great pop music, and I followed his career with interest. The later ELO albums compared to the early albums I would describe in beer terms as a refreshing lightweight frothy pint of John Smiths but I really preferred the depth and weight of a pint of Bass in a traditional smokey pub back in the day..... and that's early ELO. Well that's a bit oblique but the best I can do!My favourite ELO albums are given the fine-tooth comb treatment (as are all the others) and I almost felt like punching the air to read someone giving as much love to my favourite music, a great feeling.I did look back at the subsequent albums after reading this book and have found more to enjoy than I did before, but it will always be the sawing cellos, the haunting choral voices, the dark atmosphere, and the real submarines....5 Stars all day long!
