Great works in USA with Kabylake i7
Aside from the fact that when you load the software it's all in Japanese (which i cannot read) it works great. Runs Bluray, UHD 4K, CD on my Kabylake i7 2017 Laptop. No issues so far works with all other CD burning programs. VLC, EAC, ect...

The included software is in Japanese, but you can get the menus in English. Included software is a few versions old, and you may consider upgrading it.If you are looking for the ability to play 4k blurays on your computer, I don't want to burst your bubble, but chances are you can't. Not necessarily for the reasons you might think. I have a 20 core monster with dual GTX 1080 graphics cards, but I am lacking something very specific... The hardware to do the overly wonky decryption for 4k blurays... However, as a bluray drive this thing is super solid, and looks like something out of an 80's anime in person. That's a selling point for me, may not be for you. I bought one and I love it. If you're considering buying one to play blurays and DVDs on a laptop or desktop, I'd say go for it. This is the coolest bluray drive I know of.If you are looking to play Japanese blurays, please note that we (if you are in the US like I am) are in the same bluray region as Japan. Any existing bluray player you own should be up to the task.

Great for what it is - must have brand-new computer!
Two big notes up front: UltraHD (4K) playback *ONLY* works on Windows 10, and *ONLY* works if you have a latest-generation Intel (7th generation, "Kaby Lake") CPU. The included software and manuals are Japanese-language, although the software does support English as well.It works fine on older OSes or CPUs for regular Blu-ray or DVD playback.

Don't bother—the technology isn't ready yet
After much experimentation and research, I've reached the conclusion that 4K/UHD playback on PCs isn't ready, so I advise you save your money and wait a year or so.• As other reviewers mentioned, the hardware requirements for this are intense: you need a motherboard with support for Intel SGX and a seventh-generation i5 or i7 Kaby Lake processor (or newer). Note that SGX may be disabled by default in the BIOS (as was the case with my Alienware).• Even if you have the appropriate chipset, your GPU may not be powerful enough for playback through PowerDVD; I would have thought my GeForce GTX 960 would suffice, but PowerDVD disagrees (and gives no helpful information).• It comes bundled with PowerDVD 14; perhaps version 16 improves matters some, but I'm not willing to spend the money to try.• 4K/UHD discs use a new encryption standard called AACS 2.0, which has yet to be cracked such that discs can be read by MakeMKV or others. All told, the drive is fine, but the technology isn't ready yet. It works fine as a DVD/Blu-ray drive, so you could purchase this assuming that you will some day be able to take advantage of the UHD features, but in my opinion it's better to wait for an American version so you can at least read the literature.

Additionally I also bought your BDR-XD06J-UHD, I was planning on using both burners to speed up my delivery date. I had no idea that it was all in Japanese printing. I cannot understand any of it. I have studied online at You Tube videos and Adobe Lynda.com schooling no one seems to know anything so I still cannot get my head around it!
