Big problem with ZIPPERS
I purchased TWO sets of these bags over a year ago. If I had reviewed them back then I would have given them 4 Stars.PROS are: The design and construction of the actual bags and handles is excellent. These bags easily hold a huge amount of cold stuff and fit perfectly into a grocery cart. They're substantial enough to stand up straight in the carCONS are: The zippers are flimsy, cheaply made, and way too small. Even when new, I had the same problem others have reported in their reviews: the zippers are VERY DIFFICULT to zip up. Checkers have a problem getting the zipper around the tight right angles of the bag. They usually give up and I have to pull the cart off to the side and struggle to close the zippers before lifting the bags into the car.Now I have zippers breaking in half after light use..I don't like leaving a negative review for anything. But I feel obligated to join the others here who have had the same zipper problem. These bags aren't cheap. The zippers need to close without a hassle and hold up to normal use. They don't.Double the size and heft of the zipper and you might have the perfect bag. But with SO many other choices available now, I can't recommend this product. The average store brand bag sold at the most grocery store checkout lines holds up better than this bag.

sturdy, strong, works as intended. I'm buying another set.
I bought two sets of these bags (2 and 3 years ago). Ended up giving some away so I have maybe 6 or 7 bags left. I use them every week to carry and store two 4-litre glass water bottles we fill at a natural spring about an hour's drive away (I padded the bottoms of the bags with cardboard and some between the glass bottles) -- so they're carrying about 20 pounds each, every week. The handles are comfortable - much better than the insulated grocery store bags with longer handles, and no problem with them staying securely attached. They are comfortable to carry - don't dig into your arms or hands. I am buying another set because we use these bags for everything now. We use them for carrying kitchen gear and food (separate bags) while traveling/camping. Zippers: Of the 10 bags, one zipper has failed and I'm sure it was my husband's handling. 9/10 over 2 or 3 years of constant use is pretty good. (Even the canvas heavy duty "cooler bags" which I tried to buy more of before I found these have had to be reinforced and re-sewn around the handle attachments and around the zipper. I've never had to reinforce these. They are very strong bags.)

Sturdy, great buy
The first time I used these, I was moving from LA to Phoenix at the end of March, and it was already quite sunny and warm for the year. I had a fridge door full of organic condiments and other jarred things that I didn't want to throw out, 6 or so oranges, a few apples, some frozen bacon, and 5 or so of those crappy white plastic freezer packs that come with frozen food orders (there were a couple more frozen food items that I just can't remember at the moment). I loaded all of this into one of these insulated totes, closed it up, then set it inside another of these insulated totes.Yes, it was crazy heavy. No, I wouldn't advise you do this on a regular basis (at least not with that much weight). But I didn't have a cooler, and it was actually pretty easy to set one inside another. There wasn't any cramming or potential messing up the zipper, but I did zip up very slowly and carefully. I put it all in around 11 am right before we left LA, getting into Phoenix around 7 pm. I had it insulated on most sides by objects that were wrapped in blankets for safe transport. I stupidly forgot about the food since we were so focused on unloading the moving truck before it got too late, and didn't get around to unpacking the food bag until around 9:30 pm. The bacon was still partially frozen (don't worry, it went into the fridge), and my jarred goods were all still cold! Phew! I hate throwing food out, so I'm really glad it worked. Now, I used one weekly to pick up my CSA. I get a lot of veggies with their massive, lofty greens still attached (i.e., fennel, rutabaga, etc.), and the bag is so roomy that I can u-bend the fronds/stems without snapping them, but keep them contained in the bag until I can get home and properly separate them for longer storage. I bring an ice pack, so that they stay cool in my trunk, because I pick them up right before I make my weekly run to the grocery store. I bring another of these in the trunk and leave it there, taking a normal shopping bag with me into the store since these are bulky and don't fold down. I get all of my groceries stuffed into one 'normal' sized reusable shopping bag (I have some Publix bags, an Albertson's bag, a couple of Trader Joes bags [the smallest], State Farm bags, to give an idea of size if you have the same ones), then I just put that whole bag into the insulated tote when I get back to my car. The regular bag will drop in nicely since it's smaller than the insulated totes, with plenty of room to spare for ice packs to go on top. If you're getting a lot of room temperature stuff, however, it'd obviously be better to get the refrigerated stuff put into its own bag, as the warmer stuff will drop the overall temperature inside the insulated bag, regardless of any ice packs you might have.Since these came in a five pack and I'm single and don't do a lot of shopping, I gave two to my old roommates before moving, and kept three for myself. I suppose I only really need two, but I'm glad I have the three, and I'm really happy with these. I would just advise to go easy on the zipper. I don't think they're difficult or weak but they're not the smoothest zippers in the world, and there's no need to antagonize them.

Damaged on arrival, but once fixed they're wonderful....
I was disappointed to find that a few of the bags required being sewn as the zipper arrived detached in a few areas. So that instantly brought my star choice down from 5 to 3. The bags themselves (when fully put together and functional) are pretty dang good. They hold A LOT. This year I travelled with a full thanksgiving dinner from one state to another and one bag held a 20lb turkey and a gallon of milk with room to spare. The straps held up well with the weight which was something I was worried about - but no complaints here. I'm keeping all of them in my car for supermarket days and they will definitely be used well.I would more than likely order again, but I'm afraid bags will arrive needing to be put back together again and it's just not a risk I'm willing to take. For those curious - these bags do not have as thick of an insulated feel as the sought-after "Trader Joe's" bag ($6 in-store), but it holds just as much (if not more) product than TJs, and insulates just as well.
